We visited the George Hotel today for lunch to celebrate my sister’s birthday. We were extremely disappointed to find that they are now only offering ‘pub grub’ rather than freshly cooked offerings gs befitting a hotel restaurant. Rather expensive pub grub which would be a lot cheaper in an actual pub!! We had to send the chips back as they were almost cold and we were overcharged for one of the drinks my husband had by 50p, the first bottle was £3.70 the 2nd £4.20 for the same beer, same size! The George in Lichfield used to be a beautiful hotel serving first class food. Sadly no more. We will now be looking for somewhere else to dine in Lichfield.

Food excellent. Bit confusing to start as the waitress wasn't sure about drinks and had to go and ask higher up 3 times. Lovely Christmas carvery with coffee/tea and excellent VFM £20 a headAn amazing pudding...photo attached..mini bites selection of puddings.

A must dining experience. The food was delicious, well balanced, and aesthetically pleasing. Attention to detail was remarkable and service was impeccable.

Service ok. Ordered a medium rare fillet steak and medium rare porterhouse. Both were overcooked which ruined the meal.

My friend and I went to Darwin's last night for her birthday. From start to finish the whole experience was awful. When we were first seated the waitress said someone would come and take our drinks order in a couple of minutes. No one appeared. After a very long wait, we ordered drinks (a bottle of wine and some water) at the same time as our food. The wine came, but we had to ask again for the water. I ordered the cod loin with pesto sauce. When the food arrived it was dry, overcooked, there was no pesto sauce and the potatoes were stone cold. We had ordered a side dish of seasonal vegetables which didn't arrive until eventually we had to remind them. When the vegetables came they were just about lukewarm and there was no spoon to serve them with. I am not the sort of person who usually complains or sends back food but I decided my meal was not acceptable. The serving staff were nowhere to be found and I had to track them down to tell them I wanted to complain. They offered to bring me a fresh meal, by which time my friend had finished her meal and the side order of vegetables was now cold. When the waitress brought my replacement meal she apologised and said it was because they had an "amateur chef" on that night. These were her exact words!! We weren't paying "amateur" prices!! When the main meal was finished the bill was presented without us being asked if we wanted anything else. We could have chosen any restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday, but Darwin's turned out to be a big mistake. I had heard good reports of Darwin's, but based on last night's experience I'm afraid I can't recommend it to anyone.

Had a real pleasant time. Food and customer service very good. Would recommend the set menu for Sunday lunch.

Visited on a damp Monday evening. Greeted and served by very pleasant young man. Although we had booked on a Groupon voucher we were given à la carte menu (admittedly not full) to choose from and not being brave we stuck to our old favourites soup and pate both were extremely well presented and tasted as good as the picture they painted Main course was just as good as anticipated on the standard of the first, so much so that unusually for us we had desertAll in all a very pleasant evening, helped no doubt by the complimentary Prosecco, and we will be going back in (unusual for us!)

Lovely restaurant, good food, polite service. Only downside was how slow the service was and having to ask more than once for things. We would return.
