Sizeable, mock-Tudor pub with an open fire and outside tables, serving hearty, international food.

Had a lovely lunch for my brother in laws birthday. Service was very good as was the food. Lovely gentleman sorted out the cake for me and all staff were very professional. Will be coming back soon.

This week I have been to The Bowling Green twice. Both times have been fantastic. Fabulous food, friendly staff and fast service. 6 of us went on Friday for dinner, all the meals were delicious and the puddings too! Looking forward to going again soon š

We have used the Bowling Green pub twice in the last month for Sunday lunch and cannot praise it too highly. This is fine dining at pub prices. Every member of staff so obviously well trained, from bar staff to table service.Well done to Emma Mathews and the management team, please keep it up.

Had a very nice meal with friends. Staff were very helpful. One down fall, when booking I wanted to book on the telephone as I can't see the internet well, but after two phone calls leaving a message no one got back to me so had to get someone else to book it on line for me

Went in for a late lunch. Nice place, friendly and helpful staff and the food was good. The beer was well kept and the overall experience was very positive. Recommended.

First visit a few weeks ago, we had a good big duo of roasts but had to ask for our puddings after waiting over 20mins after finishing mains (we'd ordered them together on the app for the discount). Overall the food was really good and we were happy.Went again today and were greeted by a sign to say they were on a reduced menu which is fine. Straight away it wasn't as good as last time, the staff were uncomfortably close to us chatting after we'd just sat down by the beautiful open fire. So we moved to another table. This table hadn't been cleaned so we did it ourselves. It also turned out to be very chilly there so we sat with our coats on waiting for food as the radiator next to us was off.We ordered from the app again but just the mains to save the hassle. Waited 30mins (was only 10mins max last time) for 2x duo of roast again (Ā£11.79 each) which barely filled half the plate, it was embarrassing, the waitress couldn't have left quicker after putting the plates down. Last time there was plenty of meat, this time only one slice of turkey and one slice of beef (which was tough this time). There was no mash, pigs in blankets or stuffing which the app says there is and there was last time. Veg was rock hard, inedible. There must have been a gravy ration as well, someone next to us had to ask for more.If we'd known it was only half the meal available, we'd have ordered something else but the app did not say anything, and neither did the staff despite there being several opportunities to (when the order went through, putting the cutlery down, bringing drinks). The staff are neither friendly or unfriendly, very much just getting through the day trying not to talk to anyone other than each other, loudly. The image is the full meal before anything had been eaten, that's the entire pot of gravy on the meal too.Sorry to say after an initial good meal and a majorly disappointing second meal, we won't be visiting again and I suggest you don't either.

Paid nearly Ā£300 for 5 of us.I had so much trouble with a rude staff member when booking that I complained and cancelled. A manager called me to apologise and said heād greet us on the day (he didnāt) and provide free drinks (wine, beer, pop)We went for the meal today and was honestly shocked at the decor and dining experience. Basic āhello, youāre on table 15ā The table was covered with what looked like 2 pieces of cheap white kitchen roll. The flimsiest crackers with a paper cutout as a āprizeā The table number was written on a menu. The music & atmosphere was flat. The waiter knew nothing about free drinks.I went to the bar and was given 1 bottle of wine and 1 j20.Staff were unwelcoming. The member of tmstaff who had been so rude whilst booking, gave a filthy look and no apology.1-Soup-cold;tasted like tinned soup.Had to ask for it to be reheated.2/10Melon- tiny piece of melon with runny, melted sorbet. 1/10Salmon and prawns-ok-5/102-Turkey and beef were both fatty and didnāt appear to be fresh.Edible.Vegetables were over cooked and tasteless.Potatoes not fully cooked.Parsnips were closer to raw than cooked. The knife couldnāt cut through them.Again, food was cold.Yorkshire pudding frozen and tasteless.Dry stuffing and minuscule āpigs in blanketsā and cold gravy. Had to swap beef with vegetable Wellington which was inedible. There was the majority of the meal left on the plate.Main courses overall- 3/103-desserts were better but tiny portions.Brownie- 8/10Christmas pudding-8/10Trio of desserts-brownie-6/10,lemon cheesecake-4/10; some type of mousse-5.5/10.Staff did not thank us for our custom, wish us merry Christmas or bid us farewell.Iāve never been out for a meal on Christmas Day before and never will again.Iāll definitely never even eat there again (on any day)I was in tears when I got back.I could of spent Ā£300 in M&S and had a gourmet feast for the week.If youāre contemplating booking here-donāt!

Came here for our Christmas dinner, it was the best experience weāve ever had. Greated by a lovely man on the door, then we ordered our drinks from the bar where the two girls were smiling and having a good time, The floor staff worked really hard, was great to see allof the team working together and all happy, not one of them looked stressed out. The organiser of the christmas meals was great, keeping on top of everyoneās bookings, pre-orders and payments. Canāt thank the kitchen team enough for serving us some amazing food! I hope they all get the recognition they deserve. Will definitely be back next year.

Beyond s***. Ordered a mix grill, sausages were cremated, steak was supposed to be medium, it was still mooing. 2 other steaks medium to well done, both cremated as was the rack of ribs. My 5 year old son even asked why the steak was so pink when I'd ordered it medium. The "chef" and I use that term loosely, obviously doesn't care, which was also the case with the front of house staff as we weren't asked how our meals were, despite having the same waitress walk past 6 times, obviously doing the rounds to kill time. It's a chain pub at the end of the day so you don't expect much, but staff who at least pretend to give a toss would be an upgrade. Would give zero stars but Google won't allow it.
