Stayed for 5 nights and found the rooms pleasant and well equipped. The menu is very good and far more varied than other local big chain hotels and the food was excellent. Most importantly, the staff were, without exception, incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Exactly the kind of genuine "nothing is too much trouble" service that you hope for, and so rarely get.Highly recommended.

Had a short 1 night stay here. I took one of the cheaper rooms in the annexe and if I stayed again I’d do the same as it is away from the main hotel and pub so no doubt a little quieter. Room was a decent size and clean, plenty of towels and facilities. Overal room was a bit tired and could do with a bit of investment. Little things like broken toilet seat, drawer handles etc but comfortable enough and quiet. I’d stay again at the price.

What a superb little gem of a hotel. It has so much more than I could have imagined. We were upgraded to a four poster bedroom. The hotel had on site a Library room with many chesterfield settees. an afternoon tea shop, open log gas fire in an area from the bar, restaurant, private car parking. It was clean and the staff were polite and helpful. The most impressive thing was the really value for money accommodation. If I am am ever in the area again visiting or looking for a place to stay this would be my first port of call. What a fantastic hotel. Well done the Red Lion.

The Library was lovely to sit in, loved the fire although the room got chilly later on. Food: our order seemed to have got mislaid. My husband had to go back to the bar to see where our food was. The starter after a mix up arrived quickly then and we both enjoyed that. Mains: my husband really enjoyed his ham egg and chips, lots of good quality ham. My American burger with fried onions..not good. Onions turned out to be just the dried crispy bits you get in a jar. The burger...extremely dry. Disappointed, especially after a very long wait. Shame as the place looks quality and inviting with lots of history.

Called in for a full English breakfast, staff a little hesitant as it was 10.10am in just a moment it was confirmed all was well. Good breakfast bacon, hash brown, egg, beans, sausage and toast with complimentary pot of tea. Not bad for £6.99 per person. Will be visiting again.

Lovely nights stay at The Red Lion. Cosy hotel, pleasant staff. Lively atmosphere and a craft Market on Sunday morning. The breakfast was well cooked, served quickly and filling. Enjoyable night away.

Came here for a wedding (as a guest). Also stayed one night. Staff were brilliant! In terms of the room though, we had one that was in the annex building (you have to go out on to the street and then through a main door). It was quite loud in terms of the water system, you can hear when someone’s flushed a toilet etc. It was pretty basic but about right for the price. Clean and cosy - cold when we first went in but soon warmed with the heater. The breakfast in the morning was good, we all doubled our full English’s and were missing a few things but they sorted this out. Not a bad stay :)

Lovely, well maintained original old building. Great Sunday carvery at a reasonable price, served in the beautiful, light and airy conservatory. Have as much as you can eat. Highly recommended.

I liked it 😁 had the curry on the night time was amazing! Bed was comfy had all the basics you need the only reason it is down one star is because there was no hot water except through the shower so a bath was off the menu and although the breakfast was fab and I would have it again I believe there should of been a stock of the sugars butters etc on display or on the tables as we had to keep asking for these things and I felt like a nuisance but would definitely stay there again! :)

Room 202, was a lovely double room traditional four poster bed. Unfortunately the desk/dressing table had left over food marks still on it,So clearly hadn't been cleaned since the last occupants! & that left a first impression on me for £75 pn.The actual mattress was far too hard for me! This is personal choice and was given a extra duvet to use as a mattress topper and helped greatly. The toilet however constantly ran through the system all night and very much disturbed our sleep. On a better note we had breakfast on two days we stayed and it was excellent!Compliments to the chef in the top hat & slippers
