Merchants in Redditch

Hard, chewy chips and a weird taste. Not sure if the oil was hot enough, and that perhaps the chips just became saturated in the oil. A disappointing return to the re-opened fish bar.

Finally they are back , best fish and chip in Redditch.

I use Merchants, Redditch every week but have been very disappointed in the food the last 3 weeks. Chips which are normally lovely and crispy we’re borderline undercooked, limp, soggy and greasy. Last night fish was over cooked. Last night when one customer dared to comment about the long wait to be served the manager was very rude to her. What happened to good customer service or just plain politeness. I’ll be giving the place a miss for a while.

Tried to visit this place twice in the last month. First time they were shut a full hour before their stated closing time. Tried again tonight but gave up queueing after it took them 10 minutes to serve 2 customers. There were 8 more people in front of me in the queue and I didn't fancy spending the best part of an hour waiting to be served. The staff weren't showing any urgency, were just chatting to each other, and not even acknowledging how long they were making people wait. A very badly ran place, I'm not going to bother trying again.

The best fish and chips ever. Highly recommend. Always fresh and very tasty. Staff is so nice there as well.

Had an excellent cod and chips supper last night. As always 5* quality in taste and quantity. Always busy so a great advert for them. Always freshly fried. The batter is the best you could wish for.

Good quality dependable fish and chips best we've found in the area. Gravy is 50/50 depending on the day, the chicken meat similarly runs out so often isn't available if you go around 7pm or later. Staff are similarly great or rubbish, when great the food is correct the price is too and everyone's happy otherwise items are forgotten service is extremely slow and things get double charged. It's a testament to the food that queues are often out the door and stretch down the road. Chips have been made a little thinner and are better for it, they're never greasy. Good food.Top tip: pre-order, never had an issue when doing this.

The best chippy ever! The fish is so fresh and tender, not dried out and hard. Batter is light and the chips are excellent. Wouldn't go anywhere else

I usually get food here the fish and chips is great but the staff always look over worked! DEMAND A BONUS. All the staff have excellent customer service skills well done to everyone!!!!

Stood waiting to be served, gave up in the end as one getting the food out of fryer - fine, another holding the door of microwave for nearly 5 minutes and the other serving a customer then when finished lady steps to the side and he walks off. Service has gone down over last few months, needs to improve otherwise your loyal customers will start going else where!!
