This was a 3 night stay for a family get together, we booked 3 master rooms. Firstly the staff were excellent, they couldn’t do enough for you, even though it was clear they were under pressure on a busy Easter weekend, they still served you with a smile. Every member took the time to talk to you and did not make you feel like you were inconveniencing them. All the rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable, everything you needed. The garden area has the most amazing views. `Breakfast and evening meals were cooked well and of a good size. Menu was just right and not overloaded. Most importantly for us is how Buddy (our dog) was catered for, there was goodies in the room and even a dog wash outside for after you returned from a walk.I love how they catered for walkers, with loads of information on local walks and the walk of the day at breakfast. That was a lovely touch. The only negative for us was there was no where to seat comfortable after a meal, accept at your table, unless you went outside to the residents terrace. This however is minor and does not effect my score. It is those small touches for Buddy and how the staff were, they were an asset to the hotel. We will go back and stay again

I had the pleasure of staying at The Castle Hotel over Easter weekend. From my initial contact with the hotel, throughout my stay and ultimate departure, our experience was exceptional. We stayed in the recently refurbished Elephant Gate House, which ranks amongst the best quality accommodation I've had the fortune to stay in both in the UK and internationally.During our stay, we dined in the restaurant for both our evening meal and breakfast. Again, the quality of the food, together with the breadth of the menu, was excellent and all served in the most convivial of settings. Finally, the staff were exemplary: hospitable, attentive and helpful. It was a real pleasure to see first hand the passion and dedication of the front of house team to their guests.I wholeheartedly recommend The Castle Hotel and am eagerly awaiting a return visit later in the year. An absolute gem!

Had a delicious lunch here to celebrate my wife Mandy's 60th birthday. Being dog friendly was the initial reason for choosing the Castle but we had earmarked it after reading about it in Sawday's guide book. Can't pass comment on bedrooms as not staying here until July but food, service and ambience bode well for a great visit, can't wait!

Nicest place there to have something to eat. Would have been five stars but the man behind the bar couldn't really be bothered to listen. Young waitress and other staff were spot on though. Lovely gardens.very relaxed situation and atmosphere

Enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea here then returned for a meal in the evening. The meal was beautifully cooked. Between us we had duck confit, beef and chicken ham pie. Each dish prepared and cooked perfectly. Best meals out we've for some time.

Eaten here four times recently. Unfortunately the latest experience wasn’t great. Staff lovely and attentive but had burger and it clearly wasn’t cooked (was clearly raw inside). The staff refunded the meal and were very apologetic. Other person had duck dish and it was almost impossible to cut from the bone - clearly cooked some hours before.Place has gone quite expensive - is charging gastro pub prices but not really a gastro pub experience. Think the problem may be that the menu is too extensive leaving the chef to be ready to prepare any of too many meals.House wine excellent.Understand that there have been some staffing changes in the kitchen over the past year. Hopefully things will improve.

From start to finish we could not ask for better or nicer.Brilliant accommodation, faultless evening meal of great quality and a substantial breakfast with plenty of info and even a daily walk, so you can work an appetite up again. The staff are amazing and SO helpful always with a smile on their face.Definitely a feel good and friendly hotel for “man and dog.”

We booked a family mid week break, the staff were all friendly and efficient, the menu was extensive and good. A great range of local beers were also available. Many local walks available from the hotel so no need to use the car after arrival. Really great stay and thank you to all the staff for making the break so enjoyable.

We stopped here for a cream tea. It was very cosy and warm with very friendly staff. Lots of people had their dogs with them and it was a lovely atmosphere.
