We all happy with the food like we try in japan

Love this little restaurant. Really makes you feel you might be in Japan. The location helps with the ambiance. The food was delicious and big portions ❤️

■ We are regular patrons of Japanese and Korean food, so would like to think we know what good looks like. Having stumbled upon the seemingly strong ratings for Umai, we decided to give them a try. The first thing we noticed is that this Japanese restaurant is runned by mainland Chinese folks; yet we still held hope that we would find something authentic.■ Upon placing our orders, the waitress insisted that there was a minimum of £15 spend per person. This was not advertised, nor was it mentioned when we booked. She insisted and this left a negative initial impression.■ Then came the small portions of Japanese sushi, which are not made for authenticity. It's passable, the kind that is laced with mayo and sweetened with other condiments -- probably on par with say, a Wagamama, but they aren't the real deal (if that is indeed what you are looking for).■ The kimchi bibimbap was rather tiny, tasteless and under powered. The ramen noodles soup was decent, but there wasn't anything that stood out.■ The one thing that was unique was the octopus wasabi starter, which although small in portion, packed a real punch in terms of taste.■ Overall though, we were not impressed and Umai would not be place we would return to. Shrewsbury deserves more authentic Japanese!

It's not bad, but I would say it's average. The salmon teriyaki and takoyaki were good. But the agedashi tofu just tasted like regular deep fried tofu.I have to deduct points on the basis that it's 2022 and they're still demanding "cash only". Come on.

Our first time visiting tonight, and it was wonderful! There is a fast pace and turnover - I'd defintely advise booking a table - but you're not rushed out, and the food is incredible! Can't wait to go back already!!

Amazing flavor! Everything fresh. Take into consideration that the portions are small, so order different plates. I'll definitely come back.

Continuing our "Argyle on tour" and celebrating our win over Shrewsbury we eventually made it to this super Japanese restaurant. Hidden away amongst the cobbled streets, it is small and bustling with a good atmosphere. We ordered a couple of starters and a bottle of rose' and settled down to enjoy the atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were continually hassled literally every 2 or 3 minutes by different waitresses asking us to order our main course. It's not pleasant and not good manners and it spoilt our enjoyment and experience. It got so bad we relented and ordered !! And they were delicious. Its just such a shame that they have to pressurise customers that way. The waitresses people skills were not good and they were not courteous. Captive audience I suppose. They didn't even ask if our food was ok. But it was!!.....really delicious

This had been one of our favourite Japanese restaurants we've found yet.The food and style of the restaurant is definitely authentic. The place is set off the main street on an adorable little street that makes it feel more like a hidden treasure of a place. It is not a luxurious interior, but definitely feels like you could be in Japan while dining in.We've been here twice now and will be returning next time we are in Shrewsbury. The staff are professional & knowledgeable, the food cooked from scratch is served with a reasonable wait time.If you like Japanese, I would definitely recommend.

Hidden in one of the narrow alleyways of Shrewsbury this Place is a real gem.Service: always top notch, fast, polite, brilliant.Food: leaves me speechless every time! Since my husband and I have discovered the place about 2 months ago we have been in every week and we live 20 miles away! Fabulous food at a great price. Fresh, delicious, be careful with the wasabi! ;)Availability: to avoid disappointment I’d recommend booking a table, because it’s always busy here!Recommendations: Gyozas are a must-taste definitely! (you can choose to have them with chicken or veg) Sashimi are fabulous… And, of course, those desserts are irresistible! Matcha cake and Japanese ice-cream are delish! Plum wine is outstanding. The best thing for me is free refills on my pot of crisp green tea.If you don’t know what to have - have a Sharing platter (they have a couple) and be amazed! This is, of course, if you don’t mind eating raw fish.

Overall: Excellent place to enjoy a Japanese meal. Nice. Clean. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.Atmosphere: Nice, feels oriental. Not the most spacious place, but it is big enough.Cleanliness: Very clean.Food: Extraordinary. Looks fresh and tastes fresh. One of the best Sushi places I have been to.Staff: Polite and Professional.Price: On the high side, but reasonable for a Sushi restaurant.Only downside is that there is no delivery service available.
