The five star rating is for the front of house manager, Shelley. She is the kingpin of the Bell at Trysull. Without her, the pub would be another nondescript pub to go to, to eat. She knows everyone by name and even knows what your regular drink is. The new management need to take note of her excellent rapport with customers and attempt to emulate it. They are at best faces behind the bar. They make no attempt to engage with their customers at all. If it wasn’t for Shelley we wouldn’t even bother going to the pub. She is priceless and should be rewarded for her excellent, second to none, customer service.

Food great but do think mash potato tastes like "smash" (same texture/colour/grainy feel etc), been assured its not powdered mash????Feel that pub is missing something on the menu but can't think what.. .

We went for breakfast at the bell this morning I had the full English and my partner had smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast. Well done to the bell for a perfect start to the day 👏

Called in without booking. Very pleasant welcome from young member of staff. Attractive, clean pub. Excellent choice of menu. I ended up with the turkey roast which was delicious and lovely and hot. (I really dislike hot meals arriving cold to the table). Husband had fish which was also perfect. We subsequently went back with three little grandchildren - 9, 7 and 4 who thoroughly enjoyed the children's spaghetti bolognese. Very good value for money, very good service. Lovely food and tourist information (we were holidaying in the area) to visit Zoo Wild just down the road which was brilliant. See separate review. Can't fault this pub.

Great little country pub ! Good food and warm welcome!

Nice clean place with modern restaurant area. Food was very good and you felt it was cooked onsite rather than just microwaved or warmed up. Not particularly expensive although weirdly the cost of a peppercorn sauce was more than a pint of lager!

Very enjoyable roast turkey lunch at a reasonable price. Veggies were somewhat undercooked but they didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the very generous plateful. The room in which dogs are allowed was very comfortable and welcoming. The attention of the personable staff was excellent and not overwhelming; just right!

We had a family birthday meal here for 16 people and I have to say everyone enjoyed their meal, the service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly. The tables were spread out with plenty of room between diners. With good food, good service, good beer and a friendly relaxed atmosphere what more could you want?

We had a family due here with approx. 20 people. The servers were very kind and everything went smoothly initially, obviously they are prepared for parties.Unfortunately they do think eggs are diary, so the lactose intolerant family member couldn't have the prawn cocktail even though it only has eggs in.The carrot and coriander soup was a bit bland and watery, bit it might have just been a one off.For a vegetarian/vegan option they only gave us one and as the picture shows the 'nutroast' was more like a pile of rice with some beans and nuts and no gravy. Unfortunately the birthday girl was vegetarian as well, so she had to eat this instead of a roast. When mentioning this to the main waitress the answer was no apologies and 'it is moroccan' as of that supposed to solve everything. They did have 2 different vegan desserts which is a bit comical after a pile of rice and some veggies as I would've had room for both. (They were lovely to be fair)All in all we did have a a good time with family and most of the dinner went smoothly. I don't think I would go back on my own accord, but might return for another due if someone else invited me and maybe have lower expectations.

Thank you for fitting us in last minute Shelly! We love the refurb and our meals were excellent, perfect cooked steak and beautiful lasagna along with a cheery atmosphere. See you again soon! ☺️
