Just dropped in for a drink here, but I was that taken by it, I ended up booking a room for the night. The staff were excellent and won me over by showing me one of the rooms, which was beautiful. Absolutely spotless and recently decorated, it was one of the best kept rooms I've ever seen. The food was very nice and guests have a choice of eating in the restaurant or ordering pizzas from a hatch, which can be eaten outside or in a neighbouring pub called 'The Talbot', which is also run by the owner.Outside are large gardens with tables, some of which are situated next to the river. They also have covered outdoor seating areas as well should the weather not be at its best. This is also an ideal choice if visiting Alton Towers, as the location is just ten minutes by car or roughly half an hour if walking. An excellent stay overall and would certainly book again.

Great location. Friendly staff. Good food at a reasonable price. Pub next door is part of the same complex and had an excellent range of beers. Fantastic beer garden.

Lovely, quaint building with interesting decoration. Staff were pleasant, polite and helpful. The room was very warm with no ventilation (windows should be open especially with covid). Main course was lovely (chicken & mushroom pie and lasagne). Beef gravy served with the pie, would have been better with chicken gravy. Ordered honeycomb cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding for deserts. Cheesecake was lovely but sticky toffee pudding had a strange texture, quite dry and only served with a very small jug of custard. A little on the expensive side.

Spotted the signs in the distance when cycling Churnet Valley, so glad we stopped. Very friendly welcome, cosy inside and the garden must be lovely when the sun is out. Good priced food and nice range of drinks. Looks like booking is essential for the early evening/ post Alton Towers day trippers.

Had a meal Friday 25th March. Place was busy but only had two waiting staff, both these young ladies were very polite and apologetic for our wait. The pub was quite chilly inside, no lasting heat and being sat near the slow closing outer door didn’t help matters. For a cool March evening the fire should’ve been lit! I had the chicken, mushroom & whole grain mustard pie. Although homemade this lacked flavour in every way and although very moist I ended up putting my separate gravy onto the pie to create some flavour. The content of the pie was grey and quite gloopy looking, no flavour at all. Chips were lovely though. Husband had the steak, this had been obviously cut from a larger steak, was over cooked ( asked for rare) and was tasteless. I can see that there are some excellent reviews on here but we wouldn’t return, maybe too busy and not enough waiting staff and not very warm to be sat without a fire.

Incredible find. Staying at Alton Towers can come with some complications, namely the quality of food they serve there as well as the price. LOOK NO FURTHER than this lovely establishment. Greeted with a smile and a brilliant range of classic pub grub. Great value for money, if you're looking for an alternative to AT "food", this is your place.

Have today been for lunch for my nieces birthday, and what an amazing meal. I had the fish and chips and it was amazing I have never seen such a plate full of food, it was top quality I couldn't eat it all as there was so much. The staff were so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely be going again very soon. Would highly recommend

Enjoyed lunch here today. Staff were very pleasant from start to finish. Enjoyed Halloumi starter and Chicken Pie which was better than I expected. Best restaurant pie for a long time. Cost was as expected for a Sunday Lunch

Wonderfully friendly & helpful staff!Pie of the day (2 options which was nice to have a choice) Chicken & Whitewine was superb & a very generous size! Only 1 vegan option on the menu but this is the way up North in local pubs but it was a really delicious Beetroot & Mushroom burger which was more like fake meat then a veggie/vegan Patty so was really happy with that, they allowed me to swap the skinny fries with their chunky homemade chips which was a good decision as the chuck chips we're THE BEST! Very nice pub indeed, will certainly wonder down there again :)

Came all the way from london to visit Alton Towers and stopped in this lovely pub for some lunch and the food in this place is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The chef really knows his /her stuff. I had homemade chicken and mushroom pie, and boy, it was out of this world. I then went on to order the homemade chocolate brownie for dessert, and again absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely drive 3 hours to have food here again. Great service also.
