Not been for years and the transformation is a joy. A warm welcome and lovely decor. Upstairs room is brilliant for watching the big screen matches. The food looked delicious. Will return and eat next time.

Paid my first visit to the pub today at lunchtime, we sat outside with it being a nice day, had a pint of Wainwright beer and ordered the steak and ale pie. A friend had the pulled pork bap. Both were very good! My steak pie had good chunks of steak. One of the best pies I've had, the chips were chunky and the onion rings homemade. Will definitely be back.

Food was excellent, we had slow braised steak chips and veg for one meal and steak and ale pie for the second meal both piping hot and lovely. For dessert, we had home made chocolate brownie with cream and apple crumble both excellent. Well worth a visit.

Great Country Pub . Staff are friendly and efficient.Tonight we sampled Fish Friday and it was the best fish and chips ever .Would highly recommend this place for a Meal or just pop in for a drink you will be made most welcome .Please don’t have the two seats by the log fire if you go just in case we pop in 😂

We went to the black lion yesterday for the first time for Sunday lunch. It is a lovely cosy pub. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We had a roast beef lunch (there is a choice of meat) there was a good selection of veg and roast and boiled potatoes and Yorkshire pudding and gravy and it was piping hot. For afters we had a sticky toffee pudding and custard and a cheesecake and ice cream. Really enjoyed it and can highly recommend.

A fantastic country pub. Good food (especially fish n’ chips Fridays”, friendly locals, and great beer. Fantastic to sit outside on a summer evening, and just as good to cozy up around a roaring fire during the winter.
