We had to book our reservations well in advance to guarantee a table. The staff are very attentive, they obviously enjoy their job as they were so knowledgeable about each course of our food. The recommended wines for were perfect for our food.We were a party of six foodies including Personal Chef’s & ex Restauranteurs so can be highly critical at times, our visit to The George was great and is highly recommended.

My wife and I booked a table as a celebration for exam results. This charming and accomplished restaurant excelled on every level and all eight courses! The wine accompaniment was exceptional, as were the knowledgeable and attentive front of house staff. Highly recommended eatery in the Peak District.

We went to celebrate our engagement and had the tasting menu. The food was delicious matched by the ambiance and feel of the place. The service was equally as good with our waiter offering wine suggestions to pair with certain courses. It's a very good restaurant with everything just done well. We were last to leave and chatted with the owner who is a lovely, sociable man. Great experience.

I dined in at The George twice this summer - once soon after the indoor restrictions were lifted and then a little later in July. The first time we had a lighter lunch with a selection of wonderful small plates, some champagne and a gorgeous dessert wine.On our second visit we had the 7 course tasting menu and were absolutely blown away by the quality of the locally sourced ingredients and the flavours of every dish. My partner isn't keen on certain types of fish and so the chef offered to swap the seafood course for a ham dish which was very much appreciated. The beef dripping butter and bread to start and the elderflower jelly with strawberries were particularly memorable. Our dog was welcome to sit in the bar area with us and we had a brilliant time.We often camp nearby and love to look forward to Friday night fish and chips when we arrive.Absolute bliss and we'll be coming back very soon!

Excellent food and service. We thoroughly enjoyed the 9 course tasting menu. The staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes and it was clear that the chef had a passion for his creations.

So, we went for fathers day dinner at the George at Alstonfield, Peak District. My experience was that the food felt like it was lovingly made by the chef. They sourced local ingredients and even had their own vegetable plot, their poultry and even bees. So already I was won over. The actual location is slightly remote but worth finding. The decor itself had a lot character and is truly old England. Reminds me of the story books my mum read to me as a child. The food was very good to taste. The vegetables cooked aldente as is to expected and the red cabbage was sweet. They had 5 courses which is above what most restaurants offer. Portion of all sides where small but adequate. The presentation was perfect. The main was very tasty and I did not need any condiments or seasoning. Some argue the portions are small but considering you're having 5 courses all together I would say you shouldn't leave hungry. The owner, Graham was very kind and the whole ambience was romantic and memorable. So final say is that I would recommend it to everyone who is in the area. Definitely book a meal here. You wont regret it. I will come back!PRICE: We paid £35 per head which to be is VERY reasonable for the effort they put in to the 5 courses!Drinks: we had a bottle of champagne at £42 which was very reasonably priced! So, hurry up and visit the George!Any improvements? I struggled to find any issues but as the devils advocate, I'll say maybe shave off the grizzled of the beef and maybe a little bit more toast for the liver parfait.

Absolutely delicious food served by a great team in a lovely pub building. Drinks weren't bad either. Very much a destination lunch/dinner venue. Choices on the menu are limited but that's their advantage. Booking only atm
