A quiet night when we called in. We had a mixed grill and a steak with chips, not large meals but certainly filling. Also tasty, good value for money too as they aren't stupidly priced. Selection of beers to choose from as well. For tasty, value for money food and beer kept well, it's overall feeling of being a "local" I give it 5 stars

The Railway is a lovely situated pub.Idesal for locals, passing by or somewhere to visit day or evening. A great place this coming Jubilee holiday, with music, cider festival good food and the adjoining picturesque common to stroll around or relax on,right alongside the Railway Inn. The food is excellent, the drinks fine, although I do find the beers a bit overpriced. Tuesday night specials two hot meals for £10. Good Value as they are plentiful and nicely done.with good variety. Good seating area in lounge , with adjoining bar and plenty of parking space.

Called in after seeing the circus across the road. Bit dated inside but OK. We ordered some food & were a bit shocked at how tiny the plates are - more like a side plate. Ordered steak pie which was delicious, Dad had cottage pie which he also enjoyed. My husband had a mixed grill. He said it was all really tasty but just very small, one sausage a tiny peice of gammon & little steak but having said that it was inexpensive so can't expect much more. Unfortunately not homemade chips but all enjoyed our food 😋

You have to be careful if you're always a tourist in some leafy glade or rocky valley searching for the best hostelries and then being snooty about the menu or service if you personally have a bad time. I've criticised places and I've also criticised reviews too though I adamant that any pub review is only as good as the reviewer is hungry or thirsty and should be ignored after 2 months for all the reasons I've mentioned before here. But one thing the perrenial tourist forgets is that most of Britain's pubs aren't on any tourist trail and just serve their local communities scratching out a living by serving food and drink at prices pitched somewhere between a profit and the average cost that the locals can stomach. Here in the Midlands, towns like Tipton, Cannock, etc. are catching some passing tourist trade but villages like Pelsall have no such luck. Boarded up pubs betray how long they've been shut by the number of weeds growing from them so it's nice to see at least 3 pubs in Pelsall still trading in this and the current economic climate. The Railway (backs onto one of Beeching's casualties) has some history and seemed to be nicely busy with local OAPs on this weekday afternoon. The food is basic but decent enough, the beer well kept and staff very friendly even to this alien interloper. It's difficult to see how they make money on scampi and chips twice for 9 pounds but there you are - in the Lakes we ain't! The pub picks up the sports crowd in the evening and gets lively so wears 2 coats really. It's an honest establishment though and deserves to stay in business.
