Afternoon Tea at Lolfa Cynin in Carmarthenshire

Very poor welcome on arrival. Knew our stay was a gift (voucher for overnight stay, dinner and breakfast, use of facilities) but made no effort to make us feel welcome. Could not check in until after 4pm, dinner was booked for 6.30pm, so unable to use pool. Could not book pool for morning as they only offered us 8am, too early, 9am breakfast booked, 10am had to check out. We were not told about Bar, so sat in our tiny room for an hour. We were joined for dinner by our niece and her husband, they bought us the voucher. They paid £40 each for tapas evening. Tapas was delicious and plentiful. Jake our waiter was amazing, polite, helpful, genuine. When my niece went to settle her bill, the bar staff charged her for ours too, even though our meal was included in our voucher and had been paid for. Took ages to sort out simple error. Very poor communication between reception and staff. To top it all, our bed was a double! Who actually still uses a double? It was hard, uncomfortable and pillows like bricks. All in all very poor experience, did not feel valued. No apology from receptionist. Will not stay again, nor would I recommend it. My niece was very upset, as were we.

We thoroughly enjoyed last night's Tapas and Cocktails evening. Food was superb, great entertainment from Richard Henton, staff and service first class. Outstanding.

Beautiful building's and setting.Rooms were very nice. Clean & comfortable.Great food. As a group from an under 13s rugby team, we hired the whole hotel out, so rather than individual meals, we had a hog roast one evening which was absolutely beautiful, and a curry buffet the other evening which was very good.Breakfast was meant to be served until I think 10, but 45 minutes before when we arrived, there was nothing left. Luckily Greggs is around the corner.The staff are friendly, although some of them were very 'fresh' and could do with some training quite quickly.However...The owner... from the very beginning of arrival, she was not very helpful, or have the best of 'people skills'. The pool and facilities - (even though we were the only guests in the hotel, as we had hired the whole place for a rugby tour in the area), we were only allowed a 1 hour slot per day. Our children are very well behaved, polite, and respectful 13 year olds - strong swimmers, and mostly over 5' a lad, but - for them to use the pool, we had to have 1 adult per 2 children in the pool with them. They weren't allowed in the steam room or hot tub. Facilities incorporated into a stay, should be a given - not a treat, thats what one pays for when booking accommodation!Each time one of us adult's saw her (known between our group as Teresa, for her resemblance to Teresa May) stomping toward us over the weekend, we would think "oh blimey what is she going complain about now"!The bar closes at 22.00 sharp, and although we were alowed into a small room afterwards, the hotel was all locked up with no facilities available.All in all, nice place IF you want to be dictated to, when you are allowed to do anything. I however would avoid staying here, and stay at one of many other hotels in the beautiful West Wales area, where you will feel far more welcome, and be able to enjoy the facilities when you want to.I have to stay at hotels almost weekly for business, and must say, i have never felt so unable to relax in anywhere i have ever stayed, because of the way that the owner makes you feel.

Nice location and hotel, decent food if a little pricey for the quality..Towels missing from the room, and soap dispenser broken.Staff are a credit to this place, very helpful and accommodating

The room and bed were comfortable. Perhaps not as big as I was expecting for the price, but very nice. Service was great. The meal we had was very tasty. To get the best value from the visit, you would have to use the facilities such as the pool, gym, sauna etc. The hotel is way out in the beautiful Welsh countryside a couple of miles from St Clears. Peaceful and quiet, but next door to a farm.

We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful night away here. Easy to get to and apon arriving we were greeted with a welcome and a smile from the receptionist. We had a phone call the day before we checked in asking if we would like to book a swimming slot. We booked our swimming times easily and without complication. We arrived and had a swim before check in. The lady at the leisure desk was very welcoming and informative. We enjoyed our swim and use of the hot tub and sauna sadly the steam room wasn't working which was a little annoying but these things happen. After our swim we checked in and we was directed to our room (number 9 the taf) the decor was spot on, everything was clean and maintained. The shower took ages to start working which wasnt great so we couldn't have a shower straight away. But eventually it was working so not the end of the world. The view was beautiful and the bed was comfortable only downside was the pillows were very hard. Woke up with a headache and didn't sleep very well. Otherwise I really can't fault this place. The restaurant was a bit pricey so we chose to eat in a pub down the road. Breakfast was really nice, fresh non greasy food with prompt service, one waitor was so friendly and always smiling. The outdoor area is great for kids with a big play park sheep and chickens. Will definitely return with the kids in the summer. They will love the pool and the outdoor area.

Me and my partner stayed for a weekend with my two teenagers.We had one of the new family rooms, nice colour and layout is nice but if your all tall I wouldn’t go for those attic type rooms, you’ll be banging your head on the ceiling every time you get up. Beds were comfy, had a nice sleep, watched Netflix on the sofa with the family.If you want housekeeping to tidy your room and empty the bins then you need to make a request or they won’t see to your room at all.No bin changing, or replacing towels and toilet paper. I had to go down with the bin bags and everything else, it was like being at home and looking after family chores on a regular. Clean towels were stained with yellow rust which was off putting.Breakfast was nice but the pastries were undercooked inside, full of raw dough, staff were nice enough to replace with something else.The steam room does not give off hot steam it’s basically Luke warm steam. I complained to the lady at reception who informed me that the temperature is correct and it’s in fully working order and the temperature is normal … looks like all the other spa’s I go to must be getting it wrong. Other couples also complained about the temperature, so it wasn’t just me. The pool was nice and the jacuzzi was good, we enjoyed that. Sauna was a great temperature, loved it. You get an hour slot with max 3 families at a time. Fully booked on the Sunday for members.When we checked in on Friday, the staff at the bar were lovely.Restaurant is very small, couldn’t get a booking so ate at an Indian restaurant ‘Elaichi’, it was good.Went for a facial, that was nice but make sure you book as soon as you get in. We were lucky that there were 2 30 mins slots available, or they were fully booked.There’s a stable/ farms right next to the hotel so be prepared to be greeted with a foul smell, it’s actually not so bad on the other side of the reception.

Just come back after another overnight stay and have to say was not disappointed again. Friendly staff, good food, lovely comfortable bed and pillows. Attended with my daughter and neice and a ladies night away. Use the restaurant in the evening and the food was lovely, only criticism I could give the food was the desert wasn't very flavoursome but was still nice, banoffee pie. Breakfast was really nice 2 of us had the cooked breakfast and one had the veggie breakfast, very nice. After breakfast we had the use of the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, and we made the most of it. There is also a lovely woodland walk that you can follow too, took us about an hour but it was really nice. Look forward to coming back again, thank you

I got a 6-month membership for the swimming pool for my partner's birthday a month ago. I come with him as his guest & get a discount. We absolutely love it! The pool is big enough to do a few lapses, smells of salt & the temperature is ok. There are also a jacuzzi, dry heat & steam sauna. Only 2 households are allowed in at the moment which is great. We can relax & enjoy quietness. A perfect way to chill out & switch off after a busy day! The staff is lovely & friendly.

Lovely meal steak was excellent very welcoming and well trained staff. Unfortunately only downside was, constant barking of a dog my husband went out to our car at 2.30 in the morning but it was not our dog, it was a dog in a shed. We decided that my husband would go home at 2.45 as we would never get any sleep as he was travelling to Minehead today. The barking must have been heard in where Elizabeth lives and we would have thought somebody would have come to check, I did say all this to receptionist this morning.
