Poor service, staff do not seem to be bothered about customer's hotel not very clean room smelled of fried food as the kitchen extra was close to the room. Breakfast cold sausage cooked but appeared to be raw did not eat it. Have stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and all was good then .

After reading the Google reviews I decided to try The Castle Hotel. I always err on the good side with my reviews but today is the exception . I can honestly say that it was the worse meal I have had in an very long time. The Lasagna was burnt on the bottom and tasted foul. The gammon with beef dripping cooked chips with crushed minted peas left a lot to be desired. The chips had been overcooked it fat that was way past fresh, the gammon was a nice sized steak but it had been cooked in old oil or fat that made the taste bad. The peas had been hanging around for a while and were dried out. The hotel itself was in need of a good makeover first and last time for me. Not recommended.

Don't normally write bad reviews about any place but feel i have to on this occasion. My husband and myself came here last night for a drink where we were served politely by a young bar man. There were 2 other youngsters behind the bar, and also serving, clearing etc. We noticed then on several occasions, looked like a senior member of staff, maybe the manager, publically in the bar area shaming and showing up 1 of the young men. To which we felt very uncomfortable and uneasy with his behaviour. If that behaviour is due to the staff doing wrong or carrying out their duties, then need to be taken aside and dealt with personally out of the view of the public. Maybe some1 more in authority, or the owners shouldd observe this man's attitude towards management of staff.

Firstly, Staff were superb, friendly and attentive. The rooms i saw were ok but they and the hallways need a serious lick of paint and furniture update. Paint flaking off the now dried out damp walls is not a good look! My bathroom was a weird cherry pinky colour aswell, almost 'Roman' type theme but with a modern shower over the bath....it just looks wrong 🤦‍♂️. Beware of the uneven floors and carpets as I lost count of the amount of times I tripped over them. All of my workmates had the same issues!Cant take anything away from the food though....10/10....the beef dripping chips are amazing, steak cooked to perfection, burger was delicious, chicken curry looked lovely and my mate said it was so tasty. So, take the rough with the smooth here. Would I stay again? Hell yeah!...just for the chips alone! 😍

A huge, sprawling building with an open fire in one of the many rooms.Steak was deliciously tasty and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly too

Castle hotel is located in center of llandovery and offered first class service for our stopover. There are several comfortable rooms to relax and catch up with friends and a great fireplace with two comfortable armchairs where you could spend all day.....highly recommend in rural area

We really enjoyed staying in this old hotel.Staff was friendly, food was good. The hotel could do some updating, looked a bit tired.

Don't be fooled by the slightly tired appearance of this venue. The staff is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is cosy and warm. There are separate bar and restaurant areas. Dog friendly and working wood stove during the cold evenings. Amazing food choices and generous portions - the meals were carefully balanced and very tasty. There seems to be a spacious beer garden round the back with parking for patrons. Oh.. Did I mention Admiral Nelson stayed once

We visited for lunch today and we were served by a lovely friendly lady. Service was prompt and food was very good. My wife had the best Bloody Mary shes had for a long time. Would definitely return when in the area.

It was nice inside with paintings and a fire and the food was decent. I had the Castle Steak burger which was huge but so big it got soggy (meat tasted good but was heavy with so much melted cheese). My wife had the gammon; it was overly salty but all the trimmings and presentation were nice. Staff were OK but not that attentive. There was an older gentleman who seemed like the manager who the most attentive, while some of the younger staff seemed a little shy while others were not that interested. I liked the decor and paintings by a Welsh artist.
