Flying Squirrel in Bradford

This week the starters and meals were very good but last week the hunters chicken was overdone dry and chewy and bacon too well done. A friend this week had this dish and it was spot on. I had the chicken and bacon bbq baguette which included chips and it was lovely and good value. My husband had the gammon which he really enjoyed. The squirrel is one of our favourite places to eat.

We meet up here for a small family get together occasionally, we like it here because we can have a conversation and catchup without having to shout at each other to be heard.Very relaxing and with a good choice of meals on the menu.Nothing to complain about here.

The restaurant was very quiet. We ordered food with a very polite informative young lady. We had to wait around 20 minutes for our starters 2 soups 2 prawn cocktails. These were very nice however 20 minutes is a very long time. We then proceeded on to the carvery (4 regular ) the portion of meat I found to be quite small and disappointing, the Yorkshire puddings were very dry and had obviously had been sitting there for quiet some time . The peas were hard and again had obviously been there a long time the parsnips were overlooked and dry and the roast potatoes were obviously out of a deep fat fryer as they were hard on the inside and brown on the outside. The selection of sauces was also disappointing an empty bowl of apple sauce and all the other bowls were half full and again had obviously been there for quiet some time. The gravy was nice and hot .

A nice friendly atmosphere. Very friendly bar staff and servers. Lots to choose from the new menu.I chose from their grazers choice for something a bit lighter. A choice of 3 or 5 dishes. Had the dirty fries...bbq chicken wings...crispy jumbo prawns. All really nice. Will try different options next time.A nice place ...nice food and lovely welcoming staff.

The food was delicious, super light and easier to finish in comparison to Toby's Carvery for example. Great veg selection, and a pretty straight-forward service. As this was my first time at Marstons, the lady (Alison) was super friendly, polite, and helpful and explained how the service worked to me. The only downfall was the environment amongst other customers, they were constantly staring which made me quite uncomfortable - however I understand that this can't be controlled by the business. Overall, I would recommend and come back again at some point ☺️

Shorted staffed, but the staff that was working 1 was stud talking to a friend instead of serving customers, had to ask for cutlery. Carvery looked like it had been out for more than 2 hours as it looked dry.It's a shame because when we have been in the past it was busy and really good. It just looked like no one could be bothered.

I don't know why I keep going back, convience I suppose or it's a form of self harm, but each time it just gets worse. Once I went for Sunday dinner when it first opened and it wasn't too bad, although it is not comparable to Tobys, which is superior in every way. I then went for Eat Out to Help Out and it was busy, was nothing left that I wanted so had to order a Sunday dinner but when it came it had no meat? After complaining I had to wait 45mins for them to bring out meat. When it did arrive it was the scrappings from the trays and my dinner had gone cold and my friends had all eaten. Although we did complain and was offered a free meal overall the service and experience was shoddy. I didn't want to go back but was convinced by my sister as she was hungry one day whilst out shipping with the kids. On this final occassion I ordered a burger and some chicken nuggets for my daughter, both of which had been re heated / refried and were dry. The chips were the same you could honestly break your teeth on them. I didn't even bother complaining as the whole experience last time was draining. Will not be making the same mistake ever again and I advise others not to go. The food is extremely poor and service is horrendous. Stay clear!

In response to the question from the establishment. I feel that to make a better experience. Offer a seat don't let people choose. We had to move twice due to people already sat in places and no notice they were there. Carvery veg needs to be less soft. Baby food has more crunch in it. Staff need to be a bit more on the ball. I had to wait 10 mins to order pudding at the bar

Lovely chicken Tikka masala, soft fluffy rice and tasty nan bread & Popadom. Going to try the carvery with friends on Sunday.

nice atmosphere and really enjoyed the hunter’s chicken, however, the chicken in the burger wasn’t a chicken breast fillet & staff took awhile to clean table after we finished. regardless, we had a nice meal out and will probably visit again
