The Hare and Hounds in Calderdale

Such a lovely old pub in a gorgeous setting, wonderful views across Oldtown, Heptonstall and The Caldervalley. Attentive staff and tasty food at reasonable prices. Lovely beer garden too. Would definitely recommend.

My family and I had an absolutely outstanding meal here today. The food was totally faultless, everything cooked perfectly, and the steak pie is the best we have had by far! Everything tasted home-made and the effort put into the food is fantastic. We travelled from Edinburgh and were on holiday in Hebden Bridge. The Hare & Hound was definitely worth the visit!

Extremely poor communication, lack of customer service, money driven over commitment.At no point was a direct contact given, so had to resort to WhattsApp chat (everyday, i rang or left a messae), I was left a message, that Kelly would contact me, which took 5 days, to be then told I had not got in touch, and they had gone for the more lucrative booking.

Very busy and our online booking did not register. No problem they found us a table and we had an excellent beef roast dinner all the trimmings and wonderful desserts. Great value for money. An out of the way lovely country gastro pub. Well worth a visit when the weather is warmer as the outside eating areas have fantastic views.

When I write reviews, I try to be as honest as possible. Me and my girlfriend found this place on facebook. We look online for hidden places in the middle of no where. The staff are very polite. One female staff was very nice and sorted a few problems out we had... my other half doesnt like cheese, she hates it. We asked the for creamy garlic mushrooms with the parmesan separate as we share starters. The chef just totally refused to do it separate for some reason?? We asked for one burger with cheese and one burger with out cheese and he or she refused to do that to. So I said to the waitress that I'm confused because all the meals can have cheese? So I asked her if the chef was abit moody and she said yeah, and I could tell she hated the task of asking the chef for these little bits to be done because the chef must have been off hand with her. The creamy garlic mushrooms was abit over priced for what we got. The portion was very small for 7 pounds. The flavour was nice though and we managed to get the cheese separate in the end, after it came out with cheese on. We asked twice for it with no cheese and it still came out with cheese Haha. The cajun chicken burgers are very nice and juicy. The cheese was nice and they didnt mess them up. The fish goujons are very nice and crispy but could have done with one or two extra. Only a few chips with the meals to. We thought it was going to be amazing. The location is beautiful with lovely views and a nice drive out. The beer is good. Basically the portions could be abit better for the money and the chef needs to lighten up abit. If a customer asks for something simple to be changed on a meal, the last thing we expected was a response like that. Was very confusing when the chef said they couldnt add or take off cheese, like, how not lol? Like I said, it got sorted in the end after put my point across twice. A middle aged couple also walked out whilst we was at the bar.

Me & my girlfriend had a drive out over Christmas and we come across this pub…What a fantastic hidden gem we found. The food is outstanding! The pub itself has such a warm and friendly feel to it. The staff are all very polite and welcoming.We live 50 minutes away and we visited again yesterday and will continue to visit throughout the year!Keep up the fantastic work!! See you soon 👋🏻

Called in for cheese with jalapeno pie and chips. Looked exactly as the pictures online but the pie seemed to be 95% potato and jalapeno. Not so much cheese flavour unfortunately. Service was great and the pub is cosy and welcoming.

Absolutely loved it here felt really at home from the warm welcome from James the landlord excellent friendly barmaids great range of drinks and delicious food cannot fault it will and definitely be back. 😋🍻👍

Lovely staff, beautiful nut roast. Log fire going. Only thing was my nut roast came without the Yorkshire pudding but I asked for one and they brought it without issue. Didn’t need the mash potato with the roasts and a bit more gravy please. Lovely seasonal veg though and food was delicious.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch. Food was good but my gripe would be that it needed more gravy so I asked for more which wasn't a problem, until I checked our bill later & was charged an extra £2.May seem pretty but I assumed that would be 'gratis' considering their prices.
