We had been visiting this restaurant for years. It used to be an exiting place once, not any more. Food portions were too small to justify the price paid. It was adult price for kids' menu. Service was poor. They started preparing the table for then next customer while we were still at the table, which was very rude. We will not there again.

We went here for my. B Day. Never been before. I was shocked really. The size of the place inside. It’s more like a function / conference room than a restaurant. The feeling is far from a nice place to have a meal. And we were constantly getting asked if we had finished when clearly they’re was food left on the table. Felt rushed not a nice environment. The food also I believe is cooked on mass and re heated. Palatable food I suppose.

Excellent food but seemed rushed to take our order and VERY quick to clear table when we'd finished. Card machine wouldn't work to take payment so good job we'd taken cash for back up.

I booked a table for 6 people, paid a deposit of £60, which I queried as I had not been asked for this before. Unfortunately, the morning of our booked meal, my daughter was taken to hospital by ambulance. My husband called to cancel. They refused a refund or to hold the deposit for another date, as the cancellation was outside the 72 hours they said was required. No one can help being ill, nor a family emergency. This is shady practice at best. The food is good, we have been many times over the years. However we will never step foot in this place again. Buyer beware.

Great food amazing service love this place, all food is super tasty. Massive portions we always wabble out the door. Always a treat and reasonably priced too

We had a table booked last night for 4 people for a special occasion. We ordered the set menu D at £27.50 per person.Although the food was lovely the portion sizes were tiny.2 small bowls of rice for 4 adults 8 prawns between the 4 and we ordered extra noodles and none of us felt as though we had eaten. No prawn crackers and we were dissatisfied for the portion size and the extortionate price. We discussed this with our waiter and he said it is what it is.We Will not be returning.and I have never left a negative review until now

Absolutely beautiful food and service! First time here for me and my wife’s 5th wedding anniversary and could not fault it at all.Staff were extremely friendly from start to finish. The young lass who looked after us was faultless and really friendly.Food was absolutely tip top.Asked for the bill and got a small note wishing us a happy anniversary which was a really nice touch too.We will definitely be back again and again.Thank you all so much

Four of us went to the China Rose on a Friday evening. We had a mixed starter for four which reminded me of those frozen sharer starters you can buy in from the supermarket. When asked "was everything OK with your starter?" I replied that the food could have been hotter.... to which I got a shrug and he took the remaining food away. Not a great start. We then moved onto the mains. We ordered a dish each and one extra dish. It's a good job we did is all I can say. The portion sizes over the years have definitely dwindled. I used to go to the China Rose many years ago on a semi-regular basis when I lived in Bawtry and it certainly isn't what it used to be in terms of food.I was particularly looking forward to the Chicken in Lemon sauce which was a large single breast of chicken, sliced and drizzled with sauce, for £12. That's it. Rice and chips are extra and the portions can only be described as mean (for the price). Come on China Rose, potatoes and rice cost very little. The food arrives suspiciously quickly too (just an observation). The other dishes were OK but I had to go looking for the monk fish in the dish.We then moved onto the desserts as we were still all hungry at this point. They can only be described as a selection off a kids menu? The cold desserts are Frozen rock solid when they come so you have to wrestle to get a spoon through. In fact one has to wonder how much of the food is bought in frozen, warmed and served? The wine selection is good and they're not too overpriced. The surroundings are lovely but the food needs to improve massively to reflect the nice surroundings.

We have frequented this restaurant for over 30 years and had some great food! Sadly no longer! Our last visit on Sunday was awful! The hors doeuvre special starter was burnt on the outside and the ribs uncooked in the centre! Hence why my wife was ill afterwards! The portions were much reduced as others have commented! The food quality was poor as well with very tough squid and tasteless chicken in the sizzling dish. The biggest issue however was that they don’t provide the table heaters anymore! Citing staff training problems! But I guess they give you smaller portions so you eat it faster as the food goes cold! Sadly they have lost the plot! Very bad experience and they don’t seem to care!

The service was very slow but the food was quite nice. I highly recommend the green tea 🍵. I didn’t like the cake (see picture) not the best quality.
