"Since opening the first store in York in 1890, we have been running an independent family owned department store for over 100 years. Expanding into other locations; Helmsley, Beverley and Gainsborough, Browns have created an experience within their stores, where a stunning selection of products and services are on offer within one concept."

Very disappointing visit to the cafe today. Assuming due to covid, its now table service. Staff made us feel like a nuisance, they forgot cutlery and condiments so I had to keep calling them back. The quality of the food wasn't worth the price either. Wouldn't advise a visit.

Lovely transformation of the church to a department store. Also has a nice restaurant,in the centre of Beverly, had a nice day out

Old style department store. Cafe is good. Could improve on gluten free options.

·

Up market store but with sales that offer good value. Cafe is good and prices reasonable

The restaurant food is fabulous, although the room's a bit boring & small. As for the shop, as a man, it's completely useless to me as they don't sell menswear, what's that all about, they do in the York branch. Restaurant great, shop, sack the manager!

Went to the restaurant, half of food on given menu wasn't available. Ordered prawn wraps. Ice cold prawns, wraps dripping with water & salad cream or mayonase. Sorry but not good and not expected. Previous visits OK.

We bought two dresses from Hobbs department and Kelly who served us was fantastic. She helped with sizing and offered suggestions which helped to choose the correct garment. She was confident and knowledgeable about the products. Thank you Kelly.

An extremely disappointing experience on 25th September (yesterday). Both my husband and I used to be regular customers of this cafe, which has reopened quite recently after a long time because of the epidemic. We ordered from the "special" menu' (salmon and seas bass) and was served with a slice of microwaved salmon (still raw inside) with no sauce whatsoever and no seasoning. The fish came with some spinach leaves , some hard boiled french beans and a few olives (no dressing nor seasoning either but still some water there under the leaves). A serve of sweet potatoes grease fries and some boiled new potatoes with no seasoning or butter/sauce, completed the offer. I questioned the waitress about the absence of any sauce or seasoning and asked for some mayonnaise. The waitress , very kindly, took the plate away and reappeared after a while with a little jug of a butter/lemon sauce which made the eating of the fish just about possible. I was also given 2 sachets of ....salad cream! I really cannot believe that any establishment is allowed to serve such horrible food . The experience was truly shocking and even more so as there used to be a variety of properly cooked food in the past, before they closed the cafe due to the COVID. It looks to me that they do not have any qualified cook there now, but yet they are open to the public and charge not an insignificant amount of money (both dishes were around £12 each) for food which is not even possible to qualify. Please note that I have put 1 star only because otherwise I cannot post the review.

Lovely small department store, that always delivers great customer service. Served today by Shelley on Hobbs, who was a delight to chat to (all part of the service, in my opinion). However, Hobbs are missing an ideal advertising/marketing opportunity, with their jackets made with Moons fabric. This fabric is made in Yorkshire, and that should be highlighted. Our industries need us more than ever!

Great shopping experience with super, friendly customer service from Julie on Estee Lauder counter. The perfect host on the first counter inside the store. "Welcome to Brown"s" .Christmas presents for my good lady sorted and gift wrapped (NOT by Rowen Atkinson!) and with a smile. Now what could be in those parcels? 🤔No
