The Hope & Anchor Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

Stayed 1 night over Bank Holiday. The food was absolutely fabulous. Staff were very good and well informed about the menu. Gave it 4 stars, because the rooms are Not worth there rate, nothing wrong with them, just not £130. Well over priced.

Nice to give back for a meal, Limited choices though fir veggies especially if you don't like fish as well. Enjoyed the meal overall with a view

Service was really good, very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. Food was really well cooked with great flavours. I took a star off because the ribeye steak I had was twice the price of a anywhere else but nowhere near twice as good.Decor is ok but needs a bit of a upgrade.That being said we'll be going back to try other dishes off the menu.

Very nice pub, we stayed close by and walked in and managed to be given a table quite early, if it were later we would have struggled as it got very busy.We had table nibbles and oyster which were lovely and fresh. Our main courses were burgers and fish and chips- children's and adults. Generous portion sizes. The staff were friendly and very attentive, one of the chaps expecially. A little pricey but we had a nice time and the children enjoyed trying new sea foods.

Wonderful Valentines set menu meal for myself and my partner yesterday evening. The food was absolutely outstanding from start to finish of a memorable meal. Only minor observation was the lack of enough biscuits for our cheese board; this is a common trait in this day and age everywhere. Nonetheless it’s irritating! Haven’t let that affect my scoring as all the dishes were ten out of ten. We were dealt with by a number of different staff all of whom were delightful and attentive. We had a lovely family meal at the Hope and Anchor. The setting was perfect, the staff very friendly and our waitress knew the menu well, she was very helpful and patient with the undecided of our party! Nothing was too much trouble and my choice was adjusted to meet my request. The food was delicious, well presented and not too long a wait time.I would have given 5 stars if there had been a better vegetarian choice. Only two options I think. Please add a couple more and I will definately be back. A lovely afternoon, thanks to all the staff.

Went for a meal here recently and I was really disappointed. We’ve been coming to the Hope and Anchor for a few years now and some days it is excellent and other days you leave feeling like you have been ripped off.Tonight - I had rib eye steak and it was one of the worst steaks I’ve had for many years. It was cooked medium rare but weirdly it was dry, had a very weird texture and had a strange taste. Nelthorpe Arms steak was leagues better than what I had tonight and at a fraction of the price. The most irritating part of the meal was the king prawns starter. For £18 you would expect to get some very good sized prawns. I got 3 prawns, which were smaller than ones I’ve had from Tesco. We felt conned. My wife, had pheasant, which was pretty good.In contrast to this in October - fantastic birthday meal, food was exceptional, service really good.It’s been very hit and miss over the last year and it’s disappointing to see. When they get it right it’s fantastic, but when they don’t you feel like you’ve wasted your money. Unfortunately the latter has happened too many times this year. The total bill came to £85 (2 starters, 2 mains and 1 dessert, excluding drinks), but unfortunately the food was no where near up to the standard you would expect at this price tonight.

Attended for a birthday meal. Food was good. Staff very attentive in making it a special night.Partridge crouquettes with Truffle mayo, piccalilli and shitake mushroom and the butter. Chips were amazing. My partner got the mussels. Good portion.

Went for the Christmas meal, had 2 courses ( main and dessert) but should have had 3 because we were still hungry afterwards. Food was very tasty but we both had to have snacks after getting home! Very expensive for the quantity but if you eat small portions, it’s very tasty.

We visited the Hope and Anchor last Sunday. We had booked 8 days prior. When we arrived we were shown into the conservatory which was absolutely freezing. We asked to be moved but we're told there was no where else available. It took several attempts by staff to get the heating to come on and as a result we had to sit there in our coats for at least an hour. The ambience of the conservatory is best compared to a school canteen. Cafe like tables and chairs and not one ounce of festiveness. The food arrived and tasted good but the portion sizes were miniscule. I am not a big eater but I left the place hungry. On a Sunday lunch everything is extra so I received 1 carrot, a tablespoon of cabbage, 1 Yorkshire pudding and a portion of nut roast. Everything like cauliflower cheese etc is at an extra cost. The vegetarian lunch came with a terrible gravy/sauce that tasted like watered down ketchup. We were very disappointed. For 3 of us including one drink each it was £92. We wouldn't have minded paying that if the environment had been comfortable and the food portions were slightly bigger. We wouldn't return.
