What an absolute hidden gem!We had a Wowcher and were staying in a twin chalet. It was very clean, lovely bedding, clean pillows, hairdryer, well stocked with tea, coffee etc.Housekeeping was offered every day, although we didn't need it as only stayed 3 nights. We had breakfast every morning which was absolutely delicious.Full English, cereals, croissants, tea, orange juice the lot 👍🏻Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were all lovely. We had a look around the new glamping pods whilst we were there and they are the best we've ever seen.Tastefully furnished with kitchen, en suite, king size bed in one of them, and all brand new. We'd recommend this lovely country pub and would definitely stay again. It's a great little bolthole if you want to explore the surrounding area.We went to York, (Park & Ride is easy to find), Bridlington, Filey, Goole.Scarborough, Hornsea, Hull, Leeds are just a short distance away too.Give it a try, you won't be disappointed 😊👍🏻

A two part review...The accommodation is tired and very small so much so that there is only room for one chair. There in only one double socket in the room and that is by the TV/kettle. Almost everyone would expect to charge their phones by the bedside at night but there are no sockets. While we were there the heating was playing up and the evenings were very cold. The shower only ran at a trickle. Would not recommend this for more than one or two nights. The food. Hot, freshly prepared, large portions and very tasty. A large choice of dishes and not all were fried!

My wife and I had an afternoon tea, which was prebooked. The table was well laid out and service was great. The food tray was adequate, but nothing special. The bread was straight out of a Tesco loaf, artisan breads would have been a great deal better. The mini cakes weren't very inspiring either. I wouldn't book again.

Great friendly staff, great food. Rooms so warm, clean. Great breakfast. Nice atmosphere, good value. Deins is funny, friendly and interactive. As all staff members we spoke to. Great team

It's with a real sense of disappointment I write this review because I know just how good this little pub can be. Tonight's food wasn't good at all, certainly well below the usual high standard. The chips arrived virtually raw and totally anemic looking, the solution was to take them back to the kitchen and return the rest of the meals whilst they were refried !! The chips were returned some five minutes later when most of my guests main course had been eaten, so were no longer an integral part of the meal. I had the beef curry, which sounded fabulous on the specials board, however the reality was somewhat different. It arrived looking like something a very ill pet might have brought up, seriously it was bland sauce, tough cheap beef and two small bits of naan bread, really nothing like it was described. On a positive note the drinks were, as always, served with a smile and were spot on, as were the delicious desserts. Just the main course that left our small party of three disappointed. As ye olde red lion was my recommendation, I felt more than a little embarrassed. The chefs need a stern word to raise their game and the food on offer. A sad downfall for this charming little place.

Lovely cozy pub, the food looked amazing, so much so that we have booked to go on Wednesday night. I don't think we will be disappointed.

We had the famous room 7 very tired mattresses past their sell by date, and difficult to just open the door Member of staff had to show us the knack of opening it. Shame because some refurbished rooms didn't look occupied. Staff were excellent evening meal great and a very good breakfast Shame about room 7

Fair meal, the steak was acceptable, Only let down was one of the desserts. My wife had lemon tart and although it tasted fine the size of the portion led us to comment that we thought it was a joke, just a taster. We will possibly go again but with the dessert, once bitten twice shy. We felt the dessert was a rip off at nearly £5.

Did a Groupon here very good price. Certainly not the Ritz but adequate for the price. Very clean and comfortable bed, warm and cosy.Good breakfast and very friendly staff. Becky went out of her way to find me a small mirror for the room and was always pleasant and cheery at breakfast giving us extra milk for our room.To all the previous moaners what do you expect at this price. Would visit again lovely area close to York and beautiful countryside
