Took my Mum here today for a Mother's Day treat to avoid the crowds on Sunday but was quite disappointed. The portions on the continental platter and hot seafood platter were not as expected compared to platters had pre-covid. Also the sun dried tomatoes were missing off the meat platter but not noticed until afterwards. The most disappointing part of the experience was we were only given 1hr and 15mins at our table. No time limit was given on booking. I had hoped to treat my Mum to lunch, a nice catch up, a cream scone and coffee. There was no way of fitting this into the time frame, especially given waiting times for food and the time it took for plates to be cleared and dessert offered after our main. This was a shame because we've had scones here before and they were wonderful. Although given my home made fishcake had hardly any fish in it and was more like a mashed potato cake, I can't say the quality of the scones would be the same as they used to be either. I understand prices are rising for everything but I would rather pay a bit more to have the same quality as I am used to here. It seemed that quality and quantity has been affected to keep meal prices lower.

Lovely coffee on the first floor and outside the shop. Dog friendly, and all day breakfasts. Amazing hot chocolate.

Warning the restaurant offers vegetarian food on the menu but unfortunately it’s cooked on the same hot plate as meat products - today we were told that the hot plate is scraped down before they cooked the vegetarian food, so it’s not cleaned from fat from meat and it is cooked on the same hot plate and along side as meat. You can’t claim to offer vegetarian food cooked in that way - you are misleading your customers. We have been customers for many years believing the vegetarian food was just that, now we won’t be eating in your restaurant again, and will probably contact trading standards. Please educate yourself what vegetarian means.

Amazing food. Decided last minute to dip in for some lunch, and was not disappointed. I got fish and chips, wife got fish pie. Both spot on! Decent range of grub, beers/wine/spirits and beverages. Will be coming back!

Went to Vanessa's for breakfast (party of three) after receiving recommendation. My first impression was of how dark the cafe is. With few lights at all. We waited to be seated after being told to move onto the landing area at the top of the stairs as it was 'a hazard to stand in the cafe area'. That made me laugh...because non of the staff were wearing FACEMASKS something that shocked us all considering the current COVID situation. Maybe they should be as worried about the spread of COVID as they are other safety issues. In fact I asked the waitress why non of the staff wore facemasks. She she didn't know really but thought it was a question of personal choice. (Surprising as ALL of the customers entering the cafe were wearing FACEMASKS). Appalling. I told her that facemasks should be worn by staff and that it was a lack of respect for customers not to wear them. The food was nice. The quality of the sausages was very good. Pity that it was freezing in there and all three of us ate with our coats on.To summarize: nice food, pity about the cold dark room and the lack of FACEMASKS is totally unacceptable. We will not be returning.

Went to vanessa cafe this morning following recommendation. Although the food was delicious it is not somewhere I would return to due to the cafe being so dark with inadequate lighting and being so cold that I had to have my coat wrapped around me to warm myself .None of the staff had masks on which I believe during this current situation would have been a must as myself and my 2 family members were wearing them. When staff asked about mask stated it was personal preference but this may change in the future!!!!!!!!!!! This has not allayed any fears we had but further gave us another reason we would not return.

We had the pleasure of having lunch at Vanessas during our stay in Yorkshire. The food was good quality, Sarah our table server had great - knowledgeable regarding the menu. Service was good we all enjoyed our lunch and if in the area would visit again.

Really disappointed. Food was lovely, I actually spent £50 in there today on cheese, tea, sandwiches, pies, oil, crackers and Jams. It’s expensive but it’s lovely. After spending, I had several bags with me and sat on one of the three or four seats outside the business. There was no one else there. I then started eating my sandwich which, again, I bought from Vanessas, and was asked by a member of staff to leave because I’d paid too ‘take away’ not eat ‘in’ even though I was sat outside. I explained to her if just spent £50 pounds inside and had shopping with me so I just wanted to finish my sandwich, she wasn’t interested and asked me to leave.I could understand if it was busy but it was 2.45 on a Sunday.Service is king and now all the items I have bough have left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be spending here any more. It’s a shame as we often buy here,

Ordered their AfterZoom Tea Party for 2 people and had ourselves a little picnic on the Westwood. Unfortunately we had a little wait to collect the order as something had gone wrong but they were very apologetic and sorted the problem quickly. A tiny bit frustrated to find there were open sandwiches (one of my pet hates) however they were yummy and cannot be faulted on taste, merely my personal preference. The whole thing was excellent especially the chocolate brownie slices. I strongly recommend you try it, you will not be disappointed!
