We visited last year and vowed to return, great mistake as this year we waited one hour for the food. When questioned staff said they were too busy to produce food any quicker. Makes you think!

It seems from other reviews that you either get a lovely experience here or you don't. Alas, a few weeks ago, ours wasn't great. Stopped in after a nice country walk to be "greeted" by a very abrupt member of staff who simply barked "yes?" as we entered. I said we'd like drinks and food and we were told it was table service then ushered to a corner seat. When my partner asked what lighter beers were available while ordering drinks the same member of staff pointed and said "well they're there" only, we were too far from the bar for my partner to read the pump clips, even if she knew what each beer was, plus a tablet device was in front of one of them. The imposition of having to let us know what beers were available done with, our order was taken and thereafter we dealt with a much nicer member of staff who served our food. NB we overheard this member of staff agreeing to stay on and help out and we're grateful she did!Food was fine as were the drinks, I hope readers get the more pleasant service at this place which is clearly documented by other customers.

Lovely quaint village location, with spacious rooms. Staff are super friendly and attentive and food was really good quality. Parking is available in front of pub and is about 30 minutes drive to York and 5 minute drive to Oldstead

Really lovely place to stop. Really friendly staff . Evening meal was really good. Homemade pizza yum. At the bottom of the white horse near Thirsk and right next door to the mouse man’s work shop. Loads of places to go hiking and biking if want a challenge up to white horse. The bedroom was nicely decorated as stylish and big television just what I like. Comfy bed and looks out onto the square in Kilburn. Well worth a visit. Plus wonderful breakfast homemade jam brilliant and local produce can’t get any better.

This place is a 15 minute ride from us but we often pop in for lunch or just a drink. Nice people, great food - try the pizzas!

Prompt, efficient service. Reasonable sized pub with additional outdoor seating and car park. Dog friendly. Handpulled cask beer on offer was Black Sheep and Theakstons Best. Serves home cooked food. Gluten free options available. Cheerful woodburner on the go. Also, was impressed with the attention to detail in the little things, like the presentation of the loo rolls in the ladies and the toiletries etc supplied. Deserves an award for Pub Loo Of the Year, if that's still running. Folk may scoff, but pub loos play a big part, apparently, in customer return factor, good/bad loos have a big impact. So well done to the Forresters for that extra effort. Reasonably priced menu. I had a sandwich - avocado, houmous and beetroot with rocket and it was absolutely delicious, colourful and tasty. For £2 you can add a portion of chips and, I have to say, they were some of the best chips that I have had in a while - crisp, dry, not at all soggy or bland and with a very high yum nom nommm factor. I would revisit for their chips alone! Very highly recommended. I hadn't made a reservation and two more groups arrived after me, who also similarly had not booked. But this pub, (Rightly so, I would say.) is popular and gets busy. I would advise to book as their food really is good. I shall be revisiting. Oh, and being opposite Mousie Thompson's, they naturally have 3 of his meeces scampering along, I shall leave it to you to unearth and discover them. It's all part of the never ending, childish delight in hunting down his joyous carved mice. A pub to visit for sure and definitely for their food.

Have just enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable night at the Forresters. Food was excellent, ie Sunday roast and a hearty Yorkshire breakfast. A very comfortable room. Overall, a lovely feel to the place. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Thank you.

A friendly village pub with a good log fire and a warm welcome. They had a good varied menu and we enjoyed a nice lunch washed down with a well kept real ale. We will return.

Review for food only as we didn't stay over. Great to find a decent, very comfortable pub with welcoming staff. There were little touches everywhere that showed someone had thought about the ambience and actually cared. We ate here and the quality of the food was excellent. Unlike some pretentious pubs this didn't make you feel uncomfortable because we only wanted a soup and a sandwich and weren't ordering wine. Look forward to visiting again.
