The Raj of India in Hambleton

Just got back from a great meal at Raj. Nice, polite staff. Made us a starter that wasn’t on the menu. Big portions, had to take some home with us. Very delicious. Will be back!

First and last time visiting. We got sat in a corner of an empty room next to the "music" blasting out on a tiny table.One member of staff particular who took our order was very rude, never smiled and rushed us to order. He also kept watching us throughout our meal then tried to get us to tip him via the card machine.The food itself seemed OK however during the night I became unwell.Safe to say we will not be returning.Safe to say we will not be going back.

Best food in York by far, highly recommended. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Raj for your service.

On entering the front of house was lovely,shame can't be said for the back. The place wast the cleanest and the decor needs a good update. The staff were quite abrupt with us when we wanted more time to look at menu and the waiter who served us had thick dirt under his fingernails. The food was very bland and the rice greasy. We had to ask for the bill there times and when it did arrive we had been over charged. Complete waste of £40!

Food was disgusting don’t think I’ve ever been in a worse restaurant unfriendly staff watching you eat! Terrible food and experience would not recommend

Had takeaway from here a couple of times and loved it. Went a couple of months ago and it was okay. Then we went last week and it wasn't great at all. The food was really nice. Cannot fault it. The majority of the staff are great and really nice. However, there is one man, who I am assuming is the owner was incredibly rude to the staff in front of us, it.wss embarrassing and I felt so sorry for them. He also blew his nose without then washing his hands and processed to touch our plates. It made us feel abit sick. It's a shame because the staff otherwise are nice and the food is brill but that gentleman unfortunately has made us not want to return.

Just had a really delicious vegan takeaway, the staff were very helpful on the phone at helping me identify suitable starters (mains are all marked), and when it arrived we really enjoyed everything we had, especially the samosa and the dansak. JustEat were a bit of a let down on the delivery time and no tracking, but The Raj even helped with that when I called, so really can't fault their service here, and will definitely order again, or visit in person in the future!

Quite possibly the worst Indian restaurant I have dined in. The starter of onion barjee was dry and burnt and was unable to eat both. Thought they may be able to rescue the night with the main, but after waiting 50 minutes it never showed up. Seems like they were struggling as people were asking where the food was as nothing seemed to be moving, and waiting staff were making excuses that they are busy. Never got to try the main as was falling asleep waiting so tapped out. First time in York eating out so will try a different restaurant on next visit. Shocking service.

Me and my partner had stipulated that we wanted mild meals (as we didn't know the restaurant or how hot their meals were). When the meals arrived they were both quite hot. We asked for some yoghurt to try to cool them down and I'm sure I saw the waiter smirk. The older man who brought our meals to us, seemed quite abrupt. The only redeeming factor was the young waiter who had a short conversation with us but he was then told to go and clean a table as if was not approved of. We will not be returning...

Great meal Tandoori mixed grill, chilli rice,vindaloo curry sauce and garlic nann with extra garlic. Outstanding!! Great service friendly thank you Raj.
