General Tarleton Restaurant in Harrogate

My niece & I stayed two nights at this hotel recently as part of a 10 day trip around the UK. This was by far our favorite hotel & our favorite restaurant. The service was second to none!

We used to visit the GT a lot a few years ago and loved it when John Topham was running it. However, a return visit last week was very disappointing. A snooty Maitre D showed us to our table as if we were lucky enough to get a table at The Savoy Grill - no such luck. Some of the junior table staff were more helpful. The food was unimpressive, small and overpriced. A seriously underwhelming experience and not to be recommended.

Visited restaurant for a special treat. The tasting menu was excellent, high quality ingredients beautifully presented with an inventiveness that enhanced the flavours and flavour combinations. The staff were very friendly, helpful, attentive and professional. One of the party had dietary requirements that were accommodated without any issues and the alternative and adapted dishes were as good as it not better than the mainstream. We would definitely go back of we are in the area again.

Ralph's restaurant, 7 course tasting menu was delicious & courses were tweeked to facilitate dairy free request. The staff were friendly, helpful & attentive. We will definitely return here. We did not stay in the rooms so we cannot comment on those.

Just to say how much we enjoyed our one night stay at the GeneralTarleton. Accomodation is excellent and of a very high standard. We had the seven course tasting menu which was excellent. Biggest mistake was not to have the wine pairing. Sommelier Donald made the evening a treat with timely suggestions. Thanks to Amelia for her hard work during service. Note one star review- please understand food here , quality not quantity.

Great place to stay over . All the staff couldnt do enough for you from start of your stay till the end .Food fantastic evening meal t bone steak done to perfection and agrest english breakfast . The room we stated in was very good nice and tidy

Fantastic experience, superb food and staff who are helpful & friendly. Lovely modern clean tidy interior. Dog friendly too. Reasonably priced on the fixed menu. I'll most definitely be returning!

We've been coming to the GT for years, as a lunch stop on the way to holidays in Yorkshire and Northumberland. Have always loved the food here, but we won't be coming again. Under the new owners the food is just as good but, by god, the portions are tiny; and, for what you get, unbelievably expensive. Don't eat here if you're hungry.

What a find!Stayed at The GT for a one night treat to ourselves. The GT is beautiful. The decor is tastefully done in the rooms, restaurant and bar area.We opted for the 7 course taster menu in “Ralph’s” restaurant. This is fine dining done well. Each course was joyous.From the moment of our arrival, we were made to feel very welcome. In the bar was Donald. A very passionate and experienced sommelier. He certainly knew his onions when it came to wine matching. You could tell he enjoyed working here.In the restaurant was Emilia. This lady is a gem. She couldn’t do enough for us. Attentive without going overboard. She wanted us to have the very best experience. Very polite with a gentle and appealing manner.All the staff were lovely to us. Perfection. We’ll definitely back.

From the first enquiry right through to leaving after a superb meal the service exceeded expectations. The food was excellent and all our dietary requirements catered for. Top quality presentation. Beautiful, spotless interior. We will return soon.
