Cognac in Kingston upon Hull

Beautiful place, stunning decor, gorgeous food and amazingly friendly staff. The food is gorgeous and presented beautifully. I couldn’t fault if I tried, we’ve visited 3 times over the years and it’s always been a fabulous experience! We will definitely be back. One of our favourite places in Hull to enjoy a meal.

We came here for a meal Saturday 11th dec 21. Super friendly staff . Fabulous food . Very lovely atmosphere felt like home .But unfortunately we had another visit Tuesday 1st march on a week night for my sisters birthday and sadly didn't get the same service.The one and only member of staff that seemed to be there didn't didn't even acknowledge we'd even walked in let alone ask if wed got a table. ( fair enough he was possibly short staffed, a nice hello be with you in a moment wouldn't of gone a miss.)I walked over to say hi we've got a table under the name of lisa. Only to be looked at no reply . Hugh. Did the waiter speak any English I wandered .after what seemed like forever stood at the door, the waiter walked across to a table ( still no eye contact ) and pulled two tables apart . because he'd never asked I'd not been given the chance to say was for four people. (Birthday girl was stuck in traffic ) .When I said sorry there is 4 of us he proceeded to put tables back together ( still no i contact) . and walked off, after 10mins sat waiting he brought 2 menusMy sister ( birthday girl ) then showed up and we sat looking at 2 menus between all four of us . 20mins later still no drinks or even asked if we wanted any . ( again if hed just said I'm sorry I'm extremely busy il be with you a.s.a.p we would of thought differently)I walked across to the bar asking for more menus and asked if maybe we should order from the bar . He said il be across. Looking stressed.We all felt a little bit annoyed by his attitude an very stale manor ( did he think he was working in a mortuary? It rather Seemed like it . ) it sort of spoilt the night , my sister only booked there because of the lovely staff from December on my birthday so disappointed to say the least .I will add food was fabulous so compliments to the chef .the only reason for 4 stars.

Waited 40 minutes for a drink,young staff were very stressed. Waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for food. Food ordered was not given. Charged for 2 bottles of wine when only ordered one. Senior staff member gave refund immediately for wine but not interested in the rest of our complaint. Recognition to the chef but the service and attitude was horrendous. Give it a huge miss.

The food was fabulous and the service was too. I could not fault our experience. We had a very pleasent evening. We had the prawn starter and the mushroom starter followed by chicken and it was all beautifully fragrent, delicate and tasty. The service was first class. I would absolutely recommend Cognac and I will return.

Really enjoyed our visit. Classic French approach to food sets it apart from the rest. Nicely cooked and presented while keeping prices competitive.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Came because of the reviews, to try it out. Nice wine. Food was lovely, plenty of flavour. We had onion soup, lamb, duck and creme brulee. Service excellent, friendly and welcoming. Price fine. So, happy customers here....give it a try.

Extremely attentive, feel like you are the most important people in a busy restaurant. Food excellent, I have worked for many years in France and it feels like you are there. Love the service in every way, the best was the way they bring coats, helped my wife on with her coat first, chivalry and liked the how they treated her the same way as I know she is so special

First time visiting this evening and was the best dining experience in years. Staff extremely attentive and knowledgeable on the menu, including how certain items on the menu are cooked, how they taste etc. Service very quick and consistent. The food was absolutely incredible on both presentation and taste, I was lost for words.Interior was very comfortable with a range of seating, atmosphere romantic and relaxing.Special mention to Paulo (manager, presumably) for looking after us so well for the entire evening and compliments to the chef for such lovely food.We will definitely be back soon.

My second visit here and just as impressed as the first time. Food was excellent, decent portions and not over priced. The lamb shank was exceptional! Can't wait to go back.
