We had been told about the Sailmakers Arms and about the quality of their "Pies" ... wonderful crisp pastry and fab fillings ... served with Mash or Chunky Chips, minted peas .... great pint of Beer ....thoroughly enjoyable lunch ... thank you

One of the best pubs there is. Quirky, eclectic and great beer. Sited in the museums district. Was recommended to me by a member of staff from the nearby museum. Did not disapoint on any level. You approach through a square arch, as it is set back from the cobbled street. Enter via the outdoor seating area, which has benches, picnic tables, beer barrel tables and good old cast iron bar stools. Within is a marvelous interior, old iron range, fish aquariums and assorted ephemera. Dog friendly pub. From the ceiling are suspended collections of spectacles, key fobs, wrist watches and fob watches, suspended in time, you might say. Good, friendly, prompt service by an obliging and helpful barman. They had stopped serving hot food, but he very kindly managed to rustle me up a cheese and onion roll with cheesy chips. So very much appreciated, that's going the extra mile. Thank you! It is renowned for its pies on the menu. Good menu and includes options for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. Has a book swap set up in bar recesses. Ahhh and the beer, by no means a footnote or addendum! Good selection of well kept beers, handpulled cask ales included Black Sheep, Cask Marque's Strongarm as well as their Otter Amber and good ole Doombar. Food was a good, filling platter. Very highly recommended pub. I shall revisit and look forward to doing so.

Quickly becoming my favourite little hideout! A lovely traditional pub full of quiet nooks to enjoy a book and a beer. A great selection of drinks, snacks and pub grub. The staff are always friendly and attentive.

Very nice local pub, not a chain. Unusual and retro decor. Mainly pies ( appear to be home made ) with a large range of fillings including vegetarian, gluten free and vegan choices on the menu but a reasonable selection of other items. Good atmosphere and fairly busy, a good sign in a local when there is plenty of competition in Old Town area.

Lovely little pub in the old town. We would probably have stayed for lunch if it had been warmer. Loved Toby the 🐶 dog, great meet and greet.

·

Lovely pub serving lots of different ales and ciders. Ordered the pie with chips it was ok didn’t get a lot and was quite expensive. I had difficulty cutting the pie as it was quite hard maybe Sharper cutlery would have helped.

Nice atmosphere place with a courtyard. OK selection of beers. Not cheap at just under £2 a half.
