Compo's Take Away and Family Restaurant in Kirklees

Huge portions and really nice food. This was the chip butty and the Jumbo cod and chips. Used to come as a kid and yes it is a lot different but it’s even nicer!

Compos have been taken over and is nowhere near as good as it once was. The restaurant has been done up but was completely soul less. No pictures on the wall, it was like a hospital canteen. They used to have all the last of the summer wine memorabilia but not even one piece of evidence of where we were. Travelled an hour and the fish was thin, looked like it had been cut in half, more batter than fish. The staff were nice, especially Daniel who was really friendly and helpful. Menu was cut down. No meal deals of fish, chips and bread and butter with a pot of tea. Everything is separate to make more money but absolutely not worth it. There is no selection of desserts either, they just have 2. Definitely won’t be returning which is such a shame as we have always raved on compos and enjoyed big family days here.

This restaurant has been taken over and its clear that it has gone completely down hill. All the meal deals have been taken off of the menu and the prices have raised even though the quality of the food has dramatically decreased. The fish was watery and the chips were completely stale, rock solid. All the staff are slow and seem to not care about customers. The inside has been redecorated and genuinely looks like a desolate hospital canteen. After years of travelling an hour to this restaurant, we will not be visiting again.

What a nice chip shop! We will definitely be returning, I can not believe its took me until now to discover the little gem.

Thank you for a great meal this evening and even though you were beginning to close down for the night, you cooked our order. The fish was a good size, tasty and plentiful. Loads of chips which we both really enjoyed. Even after a 10 minute walk home they were still hot.

Brilliant place must be 1 of the best fish n chips restaurant's, really fresh food and excellent service.

Its been a long time since we were last inside here, but we have had takeaways regularly since covid kicked in. So my review. I'd have liked to have given 4.5 but it only seems to take full stars.Food. As great as it always has been. The batter on the fish has always been my favourite. Chips not greasy, plenty for my small portion. Pot of tea did 3 cups.The new decor is very neutral, but well done.Service was excellent, the young lady who served us was lovely.The downsides- and I'm really being picky here- the teacups were very small. I'm not a fan of the sugar pourers as I've not yet mastered quantity control.....the ladies toilet doesn't appear to have a lock on, and for me the fact all the old pictures of the cast and crew had gone was sad. Will I come again? Absolutely yes. I don't normally post reviews but the ones on here seemed very unfair.

Ordered via the online service for the first time.It would have been quicker if I had just walked in.Had to wait 45 minutes due to ordering gluten free option.9 people walked in ordered and walked out with there food after I had already been waiting 20 minute's.You shouldn't advertise gluten free option on your menu if you are not set up to do it.

Called tonight for our tea. Has it changed hands? Used to be beautiful, not very nice food at all, left half the fish, it just tasted wrong, half the chips was hard and half of them soft. Spent many a birthday meal for my mum in their restaurant but never again. Sorry guys.

Just been to our favourite fish & chip restaurant since it reopened and how disappointing. Totally empty when we arrived Sunday lunch time. Apparently it has been taken over. Was so looking forward to it reopening as well. Fish was small, thin and not sweet how we remember. Batter was OK and chips were nice. No bread n butter included. Expensive. Such a shame, so won't be going back I'm afraid.
