The Sovereign in Kirklees

Just had Sunday lunch 4 people 3 meat roast. The meat was fine, but the cauliflower cheese was frozen cold in middle, the parsnips were solid and inedible, the whole meal was not warm enough, very disappointing. They gave a refund on cauliflower cheese.

Food was really good but the lady with long plait at front of house was so rude . She walked over to us and said ' if your not using this highchair I'll move it because you can't keep it here ' me and my husband looked at each other in shock . She must of been having a bad day but there are ways to communicate with customers.The food was great but unfortunately this kind of manner puts you off returning . So rude and un welcoming . It's actually shocking considering they used to have the best staff here years ago! Seems down the grape vine a lot of people are thinking the same.

Great choice of menu,( bit pricey) food and service very good. It was a special occasion so didn't mind paying but couldn't go regularly. We did appreciate that the service charge was going to be taken off as the till puts it on automatically for large groups, but we wanted to pay it so left it on.

Great food, fantastic staff , all round great place to eat.Perfect.

Have visited the Sovereign many times over the years. It's a popular restaurant serving excellent quality food at reasonable prices. At weekend it's probably advisable to book a table as it can be very busy.

The staff looked down on us as bikers so we won't be visiting again. I don't know why people look down on motorcyclists just because this is clearly a family pub. Bikers aren't reprobates so don't treat us like this. One of the staff gave me dirty looks and didn't even smile or say hello. Get some respect for your paying customers regardless of what transport they use. Not a biker friendly pub and not vegan friendly. No vegan milk in this day in age is pathetic to say the least. Disappointing experience.

First visit as it's quite a way from home. Really enjoyed my meal. Could only manage a starter and a main. Far too full for a pudding . Will be going again just to try the pudding.

Food was good. Tasty and enough of it . Cauliflower cheese wasn't the best as it had a weird tasting cheese. However service was slow and poor. They were hardly any diners due to snow but staff just stood at the bar chatting to each other and my husband had to go to the bar to attract their attention to be able to order. I would still recommend a visit tho as I have been here several times previously.

We had a beautiful meal including Cod & chips. I had the lasagne which was great. The dessert, fruit crumble was lovely. There is a warm cosy atmosphere and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Definitely going back with rest of the family.

Missing a bit of sparkle today, pork ok but not the crackling that was stuck up in mash. Creme brulee ok.
