High expectations that didn’t come to light. The food was good but not amazing. We had a kitchen top tasting menu, but unfortunately this only shows you the behind the scenes which is far from impressive …. One chef continually walking past the cheese, scooping some out with his finger for his own tasting menu :-)Don’t do the paired wines, as whilst they were nice they never matched the meal, and it’s a first for me to have wine out of a box at a restaurant:-)Unfortunately I just felt it was a little grim for what they were pushing the venue as.I’m sure sat at a table been oblivious to what was going on would have been a better experience.

We had a really lovely lunch in the new venue. The food was amazing and the service was faultless. Will definitely be going again!

Amazing food, service and dining experience. Highly recommended.Entrance in the evening is through the closed market which is cool by itself. The Kitchen Counter (6 courses for ÂŁ60) is incredibly delicious and very good value. At this price of ÂŁ35, also recommend the wine flight. Plus a cheeky glass of bubbles + service, brings the total to just over ÂŁ100 which for the experience and food is really superb. The kitchen counter meant I was able to talk to the owner and head chef, Mark Owens who was funny and friendly (he also signed my menu). The food is prepared to a very high standard and is absolutely delicious. See pics for each dish. The flavours are unique and varied between each course. Portions are perfect and you will leave feeling pleasantly full (but not stuffed).

We had booked the taster menu for an evening out following the pandemic. Looking at reviews on social media and given that it was the first time we had been out, we were very much looking forward to it. I can’t express how disappointing the whole experience was. The service, firstly and most importantly, was terrible. The floor manager stood at the bar scratching her behind right next to our table, and the bartender was picking his nose whilst serving drinks. We were also rudely spoken to by the floor manager upon asking if we had been forgotten, after waiting half an hour for our fourth course. We then tried to pay in cash, as we hadn’t been told about it being card only, and got shouted at by the floor manager, who also told us it was stated on our booking email. (It wasn’t.) moving onto the cleanliness of the restaurant, the windowsills were dusty, and the toilets were unclean. The food was bland, and not what is said on the menu. We ordered scallops, which were just described as hand dived, and they came raw, which wasn’t specified on the menu. Overall, very disappointing, and we won’t be returning, especially as the meal cost £300, including a £160 deposit.

We had the Kitchen taster menu with paired wines...and loved it! Yes it was pricey, but each dish had loads of preparation involved, was extremely tasty and was superbly presented. Would I go again? Absolutely!!

My friend and I went to The Owl for lunch. We had been told about this place and we were very excited. It's a very unasuming building inside Leeds Victorian market and you wouldn't think it was anything special, but you would be very, very wrong. It's ÂŁ31 for three courses, not including your drinks. Its only small inside, but well thoughtout, they haven't crammed the tables in so you don't feel like your sat ontop of one another. Its moderen and very simply decorated. I liked it. Well, lets get down to the the reason for the visit, the food, it is simply sublime, it is beautifully presented, and it is just delicious, an explosion of smells, flavours and textures. It was the best food I have ever had, and that is not an exageration. The service was first class, everything was very relaxed and nice, the staff were just lovely and very knowledgable about the food and wine. Well done The Owl and thank you for a very memorable lunch.

We had the chef's table experience which meant we got the whole tasting menu, watched the chef's work and got to chat to them. Food was delicious and the room felt cosy.I think you should book in before they get an inevitable Michelin star and the prices go sky high!

First visit to The Owl but will definitely return. All the dishes were excellent but the mushroom main for my veggie wife was declared superb, as was my stone bass with samphire and salsa verde potatoes. Great service, nice selection of beers and wines. Fantastic people watching too!

Incredible food. Friendly and welcoming staff who are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks on the menu. The food itself is of excellent quality and the menu has been really well thought out. The mussels in white wine and sweetbreads were particularly good. We had oysters, 3 courses and 2 drinks each for a total of ÂŁ80. Well worth the money.
