The Counting House in North East Lincolnshire

Arrived to the restaurant without a booking and it was empty. Waitress was very polite and the starter was lovely. We was given a bottle of tap water for the table and we noticed that the rim was coated in mould whilst we was eating our dinner. The waitress took it to the bar to be cleaned and proceeded to take a further three bottles out the fridge to be washed. This put me off my food. When the Sunday dinner arrived we had beef which was nice but chewy. We also had carrots, green beans and cabbage with the lunch. All the vegetables were dried up. I also didn’t recognise the cabbage due to it also been dried up and a brown colour. Spent a total of £40 and felt that my trip wasn’t worth it and we will not be returning.

Good vibe and decor but mainly a cocktail place. They looked really good and knew what they were doing and 2 for £12 is a decent deal but meant a fair old wait at the bar. Maybe have a "beer only"lane? 🤷‍♂️

I've lowered my review from 4 to 1 star. The service is terrible on a night out. The bar staff just seem to serve who they fancy. If you say anything of course you're just drunk and unreasonable. The place needs to decide what it is and fast.

Absolutely fuming after arranging a works leaving meal here, they should not take on big parties if they can not cope. Two members of staff trying to serve 37 of us. I gave them a pre order a week in advance and the food was that cold it was as if they made it a week ago! Not one person from our party enjoyed their meal. We was all missing things and when we asked for them eyes got rolled at us. I waited a whole hour for one drink for it to come once I had finished my meal. A few people was running late and even though their meals had been cooked they refused to serve them because they was late which left them with no food at all but they still expected them to pay for it!! When I first arrived there I let the staff know there was two people who couldn't make it and I was told I will need to pay for their meals myself!!! No chance especially when everyone had paid a deposit! Isn't that what a deposit is for?? Absolutely disgusted and disappointed. This meal was the last time we are going to see one of our members of staff and it has been nothing but stress. The main woman serving us was very rude, we understand we was a lot of people to serve to but there is no need for rudeness and slamming tills because we was saying the meals was cold. This woman needed more help from other staff then maybe she wouldn't be so annoyed.

Disappointing overall experience. Nice ambiance and decor but definitely felt like it was more about style over substance. Food was ok although certainly nothing special. Service was attentive although don’t really appreciate offer to take plates away before we had finished meal. Dirty glassware with lipstick marks shouldn’t happen. Ran out of not one but two different beers ordered! (First beer bottle covered in dust so not a surprise!). Also shouldn’t really be serving premium drinks in cr@ppy Heineken glasses. Other than that it was ok!

Staff aren't very friendly or really personable. Food was okay, but a bit slapped together with no real care or finesse. Eggs benedict seemed to have an entire jar of hollandaise sauce slopped all over it, just felt like no one really cared about their job and nothing was done with a smile. I wouldn't return in any hurry, much better food and drinks around cleethorpes, and definitely far better staff who genuinely want to be in the hospitality business.

Building is nice, comfortable table and seats. Service ok. Food very poor, soup of the day was way too salty served with white sliced bread, so many food components were deep fried leaving you at the merci of quality of the frying oil which was old and unpleasant. Overall the quality fell well short of the price point.

A perfectly pleasant Monday evening. The food was amazing, great selection of specials, and not overloaded (which really impressed my mum). Chloe delivered exceptional service all evening. We couldn’t have wished for a better evening. Thank you all xx
