This was my regular Indian takeaway many many years ago and it was always fantastic. So, when back in the UK this week for a short visit I decided to order a takeaway. Big mistake.... It was probably the worst Indian meal I've ever eaten. Went on a Sunday night, restaurant was nearly empty, overheard the waitress say that the chef had been given the night off. Immediately realised that I was in trouble! Some observations:-It was expensive. Too much sauce but enough meat-It was generally way too sweet, like main and dessert in one. Yeah this is the BIR style but I've never eaten one as sweet as this before.-The chicken tikka masala was a case of spot the meat. It looked like tomato soup with an occasional piece of chicken floating in it.-Jalfrezi was OK-Rogan Josh was meh-Lamb chops were over cookedOverall a huge disappointment, will never visit again, sadly.

Expensive and disappointing. Having read the reviews and being recommended by a friend, I can only assume that the regular chef had had the night off. May give it another try, but I doubt it.

I've been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Great, friendly service and fantastic original dishes. My favourite place to eat.

Wow! Just tried The Surma for the first time as a takeaway....Lamb Balti...honestly the best dish I have tasted in this genre. Ever!New to the market town of Barton and Surma... have those kitchens ready...i'm going to be a regular. Takeaway..and sit in soon hopefully. Well done. Delicious. Andy

Really lovely tasty dishes, We ordered different dishes as I wasn't sure what I liked. Sorry about the photo as we were half way through eating before we decided to take it. We got a nice warm welcome and were made comfortable. Lovely people and a great service. Thank you we had an enjoyable meal and time.

Haven't been here for a few years since moving over to Hull but seen as I'm moving abroad I decided to come back one last time with my mum.We've had some amazing Indian food in various places but for me nothing beats the food here at Surma.We had a poppadom at first and the pickles are incredible! The starters were both amazing and the mint sauce is unbeatable its beautiful.We shared a main of butter chicken, garlic rice and garlic nann we thought it might by too much garlic but it's subtle enough and not over done.Overall the food is amazing and the staff are lovely!
