Charles Bathurst Inn in Richmondshire

My wife and I have had many stays at the CB over the years a great place and a good place for many walks in the dales. All the staff have been great on all our visits. Unfortunately we did not stay this time because we had a sad day it was a funeral lunch.

Called in for coffee, saw the food food went back 3 weeks later for lunch absolutely great food, wonderful service and hosts. Definitely recommend a visit.

We went for a Sunday evening meal and were very impressed. Lovely food and attentive service. Although the roasts looked really nice I had the fish and chips. Perfect. Very nice fish, gorgeous batter and homemade tartare sauce. Croissant bread and butter pudding for dessert was really nice and not too heavy. Full marks.

Lovely staff and caterers. Went there for a family do rooms are brilliant and cool with a lovely view of Yorkshire hills. There is WiFi but no signal but that's great for getting away from city life and having an adventure.10/10

We didn’t actually end up staying or eating at the CB inn but experienced their somewhat questionable customer service. I went into the pub one evening and enquired about booking a table for breakfast. Upon entering I was given the dirtiest look from a woman sat on the bar (I assume was the land lady) who looked me up and down. I enquired about breakfast with the man behind the bar and he had a general look of bafflement and confusion on his face. I asked if I could book a table for breakfast and he replied, ‘when for, in the morning?’ I confirmed it was for the morning given that’s when you tend to have breakfast…The whole exchange was awkward and I felt like an inconvenience asking to book a table. The man wasn’t welcoming at all and upon taking my details for the booking I left. Before leaving however I turned around and noticed a man whom I assume was the landlord in deep conversation with the man who took my booking. Both were looking at me as I left very suspiciously, as if I had done something wrong.As I left I was ruminating of the exchange thinking as if I had done something wrong? I told my partner of the experience whom likewise agreed the whole situation was ‘weird’.Given how uncomfortable I was made to feel simply by booking a table I decided to contact the CB inn later in the evening to cancel the table. When I informed them of this, the reply was ‘well that works for us anyway cause we’re fully booked with other guests’. Again I was made to feel like an inconvenience and that they didn’t really want my custom.Pretty baffled by the lack of customer service and my extremely negative experience by poor staff. Their attitude was egregious, and I’m pretty glad I didn’t end up eating there given how they made me feel on both occasions.The only thing I can think of as to why the treated me with such disdain is because when i entered their pub to make the original booking, they took one glance at me and instantly thought I did not meet their ‘image’ or usual clientele given I am a mixed race man with tattoos. Somewhat put a dampener on our trip to an otherwise beautiful area.

18 TR owners spent an excellent 4 nights it was a superb base for our tour of the Dales.

Only stopped for snack and coffee. But it's a must try the main meals sometime.nice staff, very helpful. Has a good car park.

What a wonderful place to stay and have a meal. A wonderful evening here with 6 friends, the food is exceptional and a large selection of locally brewed ales. We were greeted by a warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff were fantastic. The location of the CB Inn is so beautiful and the pub is loved and cared for. I can't recommend the CB Inn enough, a fantastic place to go and will be back again with my family.

Wonderful location, a warm welcome and a fantastic fire… not to mention the fabulous room we stayed in for 2 nights. Everything was perfect… lovely bathroom, huge and very comfortable bed. The food was outstanding. I can’t recommend the CB enough… love it and we will be back for a third visit soon

Location great, rooms warm clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Only negative is the poor variety of beer on offer but that's a minor niggle. Our fourth visit and we'll be going again - would highly recommend!
