Hack and Spade in Richmondshire

Really nice room and lovely location.

Stunning place to stay. My husband and I just stayed one night on route. Jane was so lovely made us do welcome. Beautiful room amazing shower and fabulous breakfast. We loved it.

We booked 3 rooms for one night at The Hack & Spade for guests attending a family birthday party, 10 months in advance of the event. However, just 2 weeks ahead of the event ( which happens to fall on a Bank Holiday weekend), the hotel contacted me to say there’d been a mix up and I now only had one room instead of three, as they’d accepted a booking for the whole place from someone else. They weren’t prepared to cancel the other booking because it was for two nights, from which they clearly got more income. I’ve given this a one star review, partly because of the owners attempts to find me somewhere else, but also because the review system doesn’t allow me to give it no stars. I’m sure it’s a really nice place, but whether this is a genuine error or cynical behaviour on behalf of the Hack & Spade I’ll leave others to speculate - I have my opinion. Either way, it’s unacceptable behaviour and I wouldn’t recommend it for this reason.

Beautiful clean and comfortable bedroom, fabulous breakfast in a very attractive dining area with many interesting objects adorning the walls. Very helpful and friendly owner who cares for her guests. Will hopefully stay here again next time we are in the area!

Most wonderful place to stay while in Yorkshire Dales. Very homely and cozy, friendly staff. Only 4 rooms, peaceful and quiet. Owned by a local lady, who is also the chef. Had our dinner there, was delicious. Highly recommended!

Superb, spotlessly clean, beautiful room The Zetland, a breakfast that sets you up for the day. Extremely friendly host. Quiet and calm surroundings. Exquisitely furnished. Definitely a place to stay.

Our second stay and just as good as the first, outstandingly clean and excellent food! We will be back....

Very welcoming great accommodation and evening meal. Breakfast had good selection of cereals but the cooked breakfast was small portion size.
