Stayed here for one night whilst completing the coast to coast. A lovely view from the restaurant. Food was good and plentiful.

Good beer, great food, friendly staff, well situated. What more could you want? Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here.

Loved this place - dog friendly, great rooms and serving both Black Sheep bitter and IPA. Would stay again.

I had a very interesting experience here. Some good, some bad. The service at the bar and banter from the owner is great. Brilliant drying room for walkers. However........ on one night we popped out to the Tan Hill pub and got back after 11. They had locked up and we got through the main door but the second door required a code they never gave us. Thus I rang the emergency number 4 times. No one ever answered so never need help here. We ended up having to drive home for four hours from midnight. When I contacted the owner he never even apologised and when we returned to pick up out bags that had been locked in the room with all our stuff. He still didn’t offer any discount and the eventual bill had an extra £50 in it that I had to point out he had over charged us for. In short I would look for alternative accommodation next time or if I have to, don’t have an emergency.

They didn't put a foot wrong but not sure how people can rate this place 5 star. We stayed as part of our coast to coast walk. It just lacked a bit of charm compared to other places we stayed in but everything was perfectly good enough.

Despite advice to the contrary on their website this hotel does not welcome non residents. Their bar, which may have a number of local ales (but no locals) is closed to non residents from 5pm, even if you are happy to drink outside. The hotel is keen to advertise it's association as the half way point on the coast to coast walk, but that is where it's support begins and ends. As C2C walkers, the reception we received from the owner when enquiring about a simple drink in an empty bar, with at that point an unemployed and clearly embarassed member of staff was nothing short of dismissive. Fortunately this has been the only unpleasant experience we have had from anywhere and anyone on our trip to date. Keld is clearly a lovely place with lots of helpful people (bar one) and deserves better. I hope they get it sooner rather than later.Lee Battersby

Never been here before but I can heartily say that the place is out of this world. The rooms are spotless the staff brilliant. As for the food I had salmon fishcakes with salad that divine. Located on the outskirts of Keld, North Yorkshire it was truly far from the madding crowd. If you ever pass call inYou will not be disappointed. Oh the beer is ace.

They finish taking dinner orders at 7:30pm and so we ended up with no food after a day's walking. We phoned at 8pm as we were approaching but were told they had already taken last orders and wouldn't have any food for us. We had called a few days beforehand but had been told there wasn't any need to book to dinner. In the morning we had a work presentation via skype that ended at 10:30am. We were very enthusiastically thrown out of the room at 10am during the call. The manager was rude and unaccommodating. Generally, everything was too much trouble. We were only in the Lodge for about 15 hours but it was a low-point of an otherwise great trip.

Back when this place was a hostel, James Herriot stayed here with his son during a walk that inspired the Herriot Way. So it was only fitting that at the end of the second day of our Herriot Way walk that we stayed there, too. With so many people coming through on the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast, this place gives walkers everything they need: a great room, great food, at a great price. They also have a huge drying room for your gear, and great views of the surrounding hills. Keld is absolutely lovely, and you see it in all its glory. If we can get there later this summer to walk the Coast to Coast, we will be staying there again.
