The Forge Restaurant in Rotherham

Our party of 9 had to pay a £5 per head deposit, which we were fine with. However when the bill finally came firstly the staff couldn't work out how to split the payment rather than one person paying for the whole meal. After 30 minutes of trying to pay one of our party decided to pay for the bill as it was taking too long, we had cinema tickets booked. After 40 minutes of trying to pay the £160 total for the remaining 4 people was paid, only to find out they had not taken the £5 per head deposit off our bill. Then having to wait for them to call an off duty manager to try and process a refund making us even more delayed for our other plans for one of our partys birthday.After they couldn't find a "note" they needed to prove we paid the deposit. My partner showed them the deposit payment transaction on an online banking transaction, one of the other staff just opened the till and gave the cash back for the transaction in the end.Such a shame to have a nice evening ruined by what seems like staff either not having a manager on shift on a busy saturday night, or such lack of organisation that it comes down to the customers to sort issues out themselves.We won't be visiting again unfortunately.However I can't fault the food, it was great. Just a mess of a night which I don't understand how a restaurant can expect to operate like this? Nearly 50 minutes just to pay for our food stood at the till?!

Group of 6 and all had a fantastic meal. Service was great and the timing was spot on which ensured a nice sociable evening.Only small negative is as mentioned by others previously that when first arriving it is not clear where to go or who to speak to about the meal reservation. Other than that - perfect! Keep up the good work so we have some good options in Gainsborough!!

We booked the Forge for a 50th party of 17. Very enjoyable night. Food extremely well presented and tasted delicious. Considering we all had various 1st, 2nd and 3rd courses and we had two vegetarians and a diabetic with us this was done extremely efficiently. Very nice friendly staff. No problems whatsoever. More expensive than some places but the sizes and quality of meals and the ambience made up for it. Congratulations to the Chef and his team and the bar staff for giving us a wonderful night. .Thank you Megan.

Had the katsu curry, absolutely disgusting, like eating a bowl of salt, and my step daughter almost broke her tooth on a pip in the dessert. Then was going to over charge the group party by £80. Over priced ping meals. And the kitchen staff standing on food preparation areas so they can clean high shelves is a bit off putting with cross contamination🤢🤢 The bar staff and waitresses where polite but unfortunately a little inexperienced.

Had the pleasure of visiting Gainsborough to see my brother and sister in law, visited the Forge and was pleasantly suprised. Was expecting the usual 'pub grub' of pie peas and chips, or fish and chips, but to my suprise the menu had some extremely good dishes on it, I decided to have the stroganoff, which I haven't had for a long time, I was not disappointed in my choice, good portion, very flavoursome, all served by a very attentive waiter by the name of Angel, very pleasant young man, very professional in his attitude and manner. Hopefully when I visit Gainsborough again I will certainly make a bee line for the Forge, nothing but praise, not just for the service, but also the decor and atmosphere. Definitely 5 stars. Well done.

There really isn't too many positive things I can say about this restaurant. On arrival you just have to stand at the bar to be ignored for nearly 10 minutes, I finally managed to get someone's attention to let them know I was here for a reservation, the directed me to a young girl running around who then showed us to the table. We were given drinks menu and again waited around 10 minutes for an order to be taken. Drinks finally arrived along with food menu. Considerable time later server arrived to take food order. Drinks finished nobody around to take further order husband approached bar, waited, was ignored, he went to bathroom and returned to table in the hope I had managed a drink order. Nope. I went to the bar and had to kind of be a little forthright to get attention drinks ordered finally!!! Within moments server arrived (minus drinks) to state that our food order hadn't gone through and could we remember what we had ordered!!!! Order done for 2nd time. Drinks arrived. After more than hour starters arrived, we spoke to table next to us as they were there before us and still hadn't had any food, thye checked and their order arrived WRONG, they had waited an hour and 45 minutes with nothing but a drink, they left unsurprisingly. Our starters were uneventful, salt and pepper squid with no salt and pepper just average calamari. Mains were OK but after waiting 2 hours we actually couldn't be bothered, to be fair to one young lady she did comp us a drink but really service is shocking and we will not be returning.

We had a delightful lunch. Good selection of non alcoholic drinks and a small but varied lunch menu. My chicken Cobb salad was delicious and my husband was very happy with his homemade steak and ale pie. The music wasn't too loud and everything was very clean.Would have liked some direction as to what to do on entering as there was nothing to say wait or seat yourself.

Lovely atmosphere and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Good food and a nice menu, with options for all our party, although there could have been a couple more vegan options to improve it further.The upturned ice cream was overpriced for what it was, when compared to the size and quality of other desserts at the same price. It should maybe be a kids option for a dessert as it did also look like a kids option in presentation.Other than that, really good meal.

Fantastic food with friendly service. Not your bog standard pub grub, almost fine dining but not with a more relaxed atmosphere. Food was perfectly cooked and the flavours carefully balanced so as not to overpower each other. The scallops were fantastic and the dessert are amazing. Not the usual off the shelf rubbish. These were proper homemade affairs. There was a little wait between courses but to be honest we like it that way. The staff were friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Decor was great and everywhere was spotless. Will definitely return.

Fantastic place to be inside, such amazing decor. Great selection of drinks, food is amazing, good size portions as well. They even have charger sockets at all the tables!
