Restaurant at Fox & Hounds Country Inn in Ryedale

Well up to and even exceeding the standard I have enjoyed here over the past five years. The new decor is delightful, the staff excellent and the food and drink prices very reasonable in the present state of the economy. Bed and breakfast at £120 for a double, compared with the level of service and standard offered is truly excellent value.

A bit like the Yorkshire Cricket Club this, in their lack of awareness that the world has moved on. In so many ways this place is perfect: great rooms, spotlessly clean, friendly staff and very good food. BUT.... foie gras on a menu these days should be a no-no. And if you, your partner or anyone in your family/group is a vegetarian then you really have your work cut out. This means somewhere else has to be found to eat. Some other reviews refer to this problems too, but it's painful to watch an otherwise spot-on place create problems for themselves. Three-course meals are lovely, but not if there is nothing on there that a veggie (or vegan) can eat. Most frustrating - a good chef (and what I ate was lovely) will be able to cater for vegetarians.After my wife had explained she is vegetarian, we are presented with bread. That ought to have been safe, but it had smoked bacon in it. Probably safe with the butter? That had bits of chicken in it.You've probably got the picture.Chef please note - you are losing business. We'd love to come again because it is so good - but we can't because my wife is a vegetarian; and I won't because no establishment should serve cruel meats.

What a fantastic meal.Everything was delicious 😋Lovely atmosphere sat by the fire the young lady was excellent a credit to the pub.Would definitely recommend this place. 😀

As soon as we walked in we felt at home. The staff are super friendly, the rooms are extremely comfortable with amazing beds and bathrooms. Dinner and breakfast was delicious. Stopped in for a couple of drinks, this place is stunning, lovely furnishings, cosy and impeccable service. A must visit if you want a traditional cosy pint.

Once we were "greeted" by the staff, we decided to stay elsewhere. We entered the inn from the carpark. Two women came up to the reception desk. I explained that we were booked in for the night and was told we couldn't check in until 3:00. We were pointed in the direction of the bar. The woman behind the bar just stood staring at us while we decided what we wanted. She didn't smile or speak. When she served our coffees, she put them on the table and walked away, again withou saying a word. That was the total interaction from the staff. No on came to see if we wanted another coffe or to check the coffee we'd had was ok. Given that we were booked in for b&b and an evening meal, we expected at least a friendly greeting. Walking away from this place and paying in full for the room was the best £140 I've spent. We booked into another Inn that afternoon and had a wonderful rest of our weekend.

My wife and I had one of the best meals we've ever had here last night. Really attentive and friendly staff, with a very tasteful decor, the fox and hound feels cosy and relaxed, but has class without being pretentious! Highly recommend!

My partner took me to the Fox and Hounds restaurant last night for dinner. My food - scallops for a starter, trio of fish for the main and a scoop of eggnog ice-cream - was delicious. However, my partners food was very disappointing. He is a vegetarian - there was no vegan or vegetarian option on either the main or specials menu. Two starters were vegetarian - the soup and a broccoli salad. On request we were informed of a further option of a mushroom risotto. My partner is not a lover of mushrooms so opted to have soup for a starter then a main version of the broccoli salad. This main was very disappointing, consisting of a few stalks of chargrilled tender stem broccoli on a bed of salad leaves, with a sprinkling of chick peas and Parmesan. However, it was a broccoli salad as communicated so could not be complained about. However, when the bill came and these ingredients cost £18.00 this was, I feel, inappropriate. In addition, there was an error with my main resulting in it coming out way after my partners. Usually a restaurant would knock off the cost of a side or drink for this inconvenience but no such compensation was forthcoming. Hence the three stars.

This hotel and restaurant is an absolute jewel. We had 3 incredible nights here. The staff are lovely, and thoroughly professional with a typical Yorkshire warmth. The rooms are very comfortable, and well equipped and decorated. The food though, is absolutely 5 star. We ate dinner on 2 nights, and breakfast every day. It was absolutely superb, and I cannot praise the chef and staff enough.

My wife and I visited England for two weeks in September for a vacation. We stayed at The Fox & Hounds for one night whilst visiting the NYMR. I'm originally from England and wanted to to show my wife the North York Moors and ride the steam railway.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fox & Hounds and wish we'd stayed longer. We were in The Garden Room which was the very comfortable and spacious with a lovely walk-in shower and great amenities.The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and we loved the perks such as a private lounge area for guests.However, it was the food that made this stay the most memorable for me. The dinner was delicious and, as someone who's eaten in some highly rated restaurants and enjoys great food, the meal we had at The Fox & Hounds rates among my top 10 of all time. The breakfast in the morning was also delicious. I only wish we'd had more meals there and stayed longer. We'll definitely be back!
