Beautiful pub and the food was fantastic. The pensioners special was good and filling. The burger was to die for. The only reason it got 4 not 5 star was for the waiting time. We was told about the wait as it was very busy but it was well worth the wait. It did seem slightly more expensive than our normal pub lunch but it would not put us off returning.

Great little pub with good beer, super food and excellent staff. Landlord welcomed us into the pub took our order and sorted us out very efficiently. A genial host. A pity we were only passing through as this would be a fab local!Well done you deserve to be successful.

I've had better food for half the price in Wetherspoons.Had the Steak Gatsby which is basically a £16 chip butty and my wife was left hungry after her small main meal. I aired my disappointment to the owner which fell on deaf ears.Apparently nobody has ever complained about their food before so my complaint is irrelevant.Very disappointed especially after a 100 miles round trip to visit.

A lovely little Yorkshire pub with a South African twist. The real ales were delicious and clearly very well looked after and the food was great quality pub grub with a few delicious South African options on the menu. The chap who owns and runs it was an excellent host. Would highly recommend.

Came across this little gem today as visiting nr Malton. The food was beautiful and plentiful! I decided to go for the Royal Oak Burger and so glad I did. The burger was ok f excellent quality and all the ingredients were clearly fresh, right down to the garnish. The chips, i can honestly say that these were some of the best chips I've ever had! The Salsa was perfect as well as a lovely creamy coleslaw. All served up by very welcoming, friendly staff. I will definitely be returning on my next visit to Old Malton!

Stopped here on our way home from a trip and had lunch in their lovely sunny beer garden. The pub was very dog friendly. The food was tasty and fresh, and the service was friendly and genuine. They even had sun lotion available in a dispenser in the beer garden, which was a very thoughtful and useful idea. Lovely pub!

We had a great meal at the Royal Oak! A proper lovely pub or a lovely proper pub? I think both! Staff and landlord were really nice, friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and authentic, and I loved the South African options. The pub had a lovely atmosphere, even on a cold January evening. We look forward to visiting again in Spring and make use of the outdoor space too!

After seeing comments about the food here on Instagram, I took my wife on a mystery day out, 274 mile round trip from Derbyshire.Arriving for our booked table, we chose the Steak Gatsby off the normal menu and chose the pensioners special 3 couses for £10 - Mushroom Pate, Braised Steak and Colcannon Mash and Apple & Cranberry Crumble. The Steak Gatsby was a large crunchy sub roll filled with Steak, 2 eggs, chips and tomato with lettuce and mild Piri Piri sauce. It was very tasty and large. The 3 course meal was very nice and very good value. The husband and wife owners were very friendly and attentive.Highly recommended to try here, made the day worthwhile.

What a fantastic find. Friendly hosts, great menu with some lovely South African dishes. Reasonable prices, just wished we were locals as would dine in this welcoming pub every week. Loved the Bunny Chow followed by the best lemon posset I've ever had. So tangy. Nice wines.

Very accommodating staff and very amazing burger.Unfortunately we weren't able to get a table for the following Saturday night (that's how popular this place is, and I did want a table for 6!) but they looked at all options before finally saying they couldn't get us in.I did stay for my tea though, re: the aforementioned burger, and with triple cooked food too ..👍🏼
