Nice cafe. Reasonable food but not huge portions but value for money. Service very quick and food very hot. Happily use again.

Russels is a beautiful, big and clean place with plenty of room, childs seats available. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Plenty of delicious bakes, cakes and full meals, all are very good quality and good sized portions- order and pay at the til with table service and special boards, takeaways possible as well. It's been kept in the family for many many years with Danny taking the café over from his dad Garry, a brilliantly run café all round! Thank you for a great service, will soon call in again!!

Lovely staff, friendly and accomodating (we had our part time dog with us).THE BEST sausage roll I've ever had here, pork and apple with a pot of mushy peas. Perfection. It's an old school kind of place in terms of layout, decor and customers. Please never change! Place was packed and seems like it has a solid trade. Wide variety of cakes and slices at a reasonable price e.g strawberry and rhubarb. You would pay x 3 times more at some more 'fashionable' places. Recommended.

Ordered a chicken burger that was basically a birds eye chicken fillet in a teacake (bread bun) with a dollop of mayonnaise. The menu stated the burger came with salad, it didn't and I had to ask for it. The "salad" then came in a cup and consisted of a bit of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Photo of cup of salad posted. For £3.80 I expected a little more than a "Birds Eye" southern fried chicken fillet and a terrible cup of lettuce that I had to ask for.The only saving grace was the orange juice. Avoid if you like chicken.

Five stars because it is exactly what you want a little Independant cafe and bakers to be. A large selection of fresh pastries, pies and cakes. Friendly service, good waiting staff, bustling with local people, understanding to upset babies, reasonable prices and of course lovely comfort food. They serve a pot of tea automatically with a spare pot of boiling water - this is the sign of true Northern class.Nice to see these places doing well.
