The Black Swan at Oldstead in Ryedale

Second visit here after a great visit some years ago. I really felt this time there was a well oiled confidence and ease in providing an incredible offering. Super well orchestrated service and attention that was impressive. The food was delicious and beautiful, especially some of my vegetarian menu. We opted for the special wine pairing, and it really felt it. Lots of older wines, all excellent, in beautiful stemware. 1 downside is I got a migraine and missed a portion of the dinner towards the end that spoiled what would have been a really incredible evening.

Fabulous experience from start to finish. Wonderful relaxed atmosphere, with a steady pace of service not at all rushed. This was a birthday surprise from my partner and it was such a treat. Lovely staff, stunning location and some dishes with flavours I’ve never tried before. Thoroughly recommend and we’ll be sure to go again

There is a reason this eatery is booked up to 5 months ahead - it’s fabulous . They achieved a Michelin star ten years ago and have held it every year since . Apparently they would like a second ?Our first time here and everything has been so well thought out . The staff are delightful .. and it goes without saying the food is sensational. So creative and so interesting . I wasn’t totally taken with the wine pairing which was too ‘white heavy’ but clearly related to the current menu .We stayed in a delightful room and had pre meal cocktails in the evening sunshine under the cherry blossom tree . What could be more perfect ?

The tasting menu was amazing but it's not cheap. The staff are lovely they couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. The drinks are very good,they are from all over the world. I am not surprised this is a Michelin star restaurant.

Wonderful experience and excellent service.The attention to detail is superb, staff very friendly and accommodating.The menu had some elements which we were unsure of; however there was no need to worry as everything was delicious. Thank you.

Fabulous dining experience!Excellent service from the young and knowledgeable team, and a lovely pace to the dishes coming to the table. Each course was fully explained, beautifully presented and tasted superb, and all in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.We’ve had several tasting menus at top restaurants and The Black Swan tasting menu is one of the best.

The food was superb, better than certain 3 star establishments. They get a bit carried away with the wine pairing prices. And drinks prices to be honest. But you can find good wine at decent restaurant prices on the list. We found the service a perfect mix of friendly, enthusiastic yet professional. The breakfast was perfect, (again much better than certain 3 star establishments. One comment for the owners, if you only have the loft apartment left, warn your potential guests that it may not be suitable for the older or less mobile.

I have tried quite a few tasting menu's and I have to say this has been the best one yet!! The wine pairing was also great and we were lucky enough to try some really nice rare and vintage wines! Great place and lovely location!! Hope to visit again

A really fantastic experience.We were expertly guided through a varied and interesting tasting menu which showcased some great British ingredients. To partner this, we also enjoyed a range of brilliant, rare wines from a well curated list.The setting was warm, informal and very comfortable. The overnight room was well appointed, whilst the breakfast the next morning lived up to the standards of the previous night's dinnerI cannot praise the restaurant strongly enough.

Very much enjoyed our dining experience at The Black Swan. Tasting menu was excellent as expected. Would have given it 5 stars if the accommodation had matched the dining experience. Problems with water supply meant bathing and showering difficult compounded by a faulty plug meaning bath couldn’t be used. Given the significant cost of a room it was a dent in what was otherwise an enjoyable visit.
