Fantastic building and landscaping. Staff kind and attentive and meal was delicious, also homemade biscuits (large) with coffee after dinner.. yummy

The old lodge! Some may say quirky, some may say old. But as it is a listed building, so why would you change its adorable features! The staff were pleasant and polite, I found them to be very helpful all the time. The food was beautiful amd the overall service was amazing. We came for our honeymoon and I wouldn't have chosen anywhere else.Thankyou all at The Old Lodge! Xx

A lovely hotel with a long interesting history. It has a large beautiful garden, surrounded by mature trees which backs onto ancient Roman ruins. Our room was comfortable with a luxurious bathroom with a free standing bath and walk-in shower. The hotel has a comfortable lounge and outdoor seating. The breakfast was excellent. The dinner menu was a little limited in choice but with an interesting selection of Indian dishes. The thali tray option was excellent. The receptionist/manager was excellent and the restaurant staff very pleasant and eager to please. We found it a good location for visiting Castle Howard, Helmsley, Duncombe Park, Rievaulx Abbey and east coast towns like Whitby and Runswick Bay.The Rare Bird gin distillery is about 10 minutes walk away.

Beautiful room, comfortable bed, shower room a bit small, difficult to dry off, but it's an old building and I guess they have to do the best with what they have.

To celebrate my Birthday, we booked a meal for four. Upon arrival, we were delighted to learn that we were to be accommodated in a private room. The service was excellent, being efficient, cheerful and professional and the meal was absolutely delicious - our compliments to the chef !! A thoroughly enjoyable experience was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to the management and staff at The Old Lodge for such an excellent experience on this special occasion.

"luxury" double room wasnt much more than travel lodge standard. Buy friends are staying in the superior rooms and they are significantly better equipped and presented! Lots of stairs so probably not v wheelchair friendly

Careful when you book, you may be in the "lodge" described as 100 metres down the road (more like 300) with no parking, it's not ideal, you need to park in the hotel, where breakfast is served etc, but you are down a thin main road, approximately 300 metres away in the rain. If you forget something in your car, it's a nightmare. The lodge, (which you get no real directions to from the very unhelpful staff) has stairs down to it, (lethal in the wet) and it's like a maze. When you do eventually find your room, it has damp patches on the ceiling, cracks everywhere (even in the bath) stains on the carpet...it's not great. Phone to complain if you like, but no one answers the phone (you'll need to email) You will get a reply (eventually) offering a different room, described as worse than your current room, it really doesn't do anything to help the situation. My honest opinion is, they really don't care, you paid in advance.

Stayed for 1 night at the weekend and all I can say is WOW! A stunning hotel, with beautiful gardens, the room was fantastic, food was delicious and service was 2nd to none. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here and can't wait to return.I feel I must mention Tristan who greeted us warmly at reception upon arrival, a lovely young man who was also tending the bar and served us in the Dining Room on the evening a real asset to the hotel
