From the warm welcome to the lovely view across the valley, we had a very enjoyable hour or so on a sunny, but cool, May afternoon. We stumbled upon the Stone Trough whilst looking for the abbey (which wax closed as luck would have it). We didn't eat but the menu was good and the meals we saw served looked generous. The large conservatory with its raised views would no doubt be a great place for a special occasion.

This pub is in a beautiful setting,I can imagine it would be perfect on a hot sunny day. Had the fish pie, and the sticky toffee pudding was divine. The only reason it hasn't got 5 stars is because you can't order food after 7.30 which is a shame. Not sure the reason, but the staff were amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped here for lunch on an unexpectedly hot day in March- the man serving apologised as they were short staffed and busy, but nevertheless managed what looked to be a busy lunchtime with friendly, polite and attentive service. The food was tasty and fresh. The views from the outside covered patio were lovely. The pub is very dog friendly.

What a lovely find! My partner & I were on holiday in the York area, looking for somewhere to have a quick dinner. We had our dog with us so needed a dog friendly pub and this came up in our search. We made a reservation (just in case!) for 15 minutes time. The welcome was outstanding, what lovely staff and the food was incredible! We had mains and desserts and both were deliciously cooked. I only wish we had somewhere like this closer to home on the south coast!

One word... Incredible... Warm welcome, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Food is to die for. I had the 12 hour braised lamb and raspberry and pistachio millionaire tart. Best pub meal I have ever had. Perfectly balanced, not overpowering, overly sweet or sickly and not too heavy either. More than accomodating of the dog as well, putting water down for him at our table and providing a few treats for him as well.My partner and I will definitely be returning on our next trip to the York area.

I enjoyed a lovely lunch here. I had the plaice which was delicately cooked.Booking a table is easy using the website and worth doing as it did seem to be filling up quite a bit with visitors including those enjoying the outdoors in the area (walkers and cyclists). There is a very large car park.I was seated in the conservatory which looks to be a relatively recent addition and, due to planning, can only be accessed internally. It was heated which was of benefit today and it had decent views across the Derwent Valley.

Incredible meal. Highly recommend. Look no further for delicious food, attentive and friendly staff and a perfect setting and atmosphere. You will not be disappointed. Also, get the duck main. It was amazing.

Beautiful location whether you want to walk or drive drive to the pub. Kirkham Abbey is a lovely riverside setting and the pub is nearby. Beef pot pie was a joy. Service and prices were excellent. Lovely traditional build with conservatory with stunning views well worth stopping at. Love to see it in the winter.
