"W. Hamond The Original Whitby Jet Shop has been manufacturing and selling high quality jewellery made from the Yorkshire gemstone Whitby Jet since the year 1860. Over this time we have accrued the largest collection of historic Whitby Jet in the world, a collection which is now housed in W. Hamond’s Museum of Whitby Jet. The museum sets out to explain every facet of this gemstone, from its Jurassic geology through to its incredible history as a gem of power, healing, fashion and etiquette. The museum’s star attraction is the largest specimen of rough Whitby Jet in the world, an astounding 21 feet in length, on display in the museum’s on site restaurant Albert’s Eatery."
