Middle Earth Tavern in Scarborough

Large harbourside pub with outdoor seating to the front, with some seats under shelter. Dog friendly. Has pool room. More seating upstairs in two rooms - no dogs allowed upstairs. Aquarium upstairs and also a second bar. Woodburner. Table service. Handpulled cask beers were Doombar, Copper Dragon and Old Peculiar.

Don’t go to this place, very unwelcoming, anyone would think covid was still around.Hardly any seats indoors, which are very uncomfortable anyway and without one they won’t serve you, they asked me to go outside in the cold and get a seat. Because I wanted to stay inside, they left me standing and completely ignored me.There are a lot of pubs in Whitby, so competition is great, they should be more accommodating.The one down the road is lovely, a great atmosphere and very welcoming! Go there

Great Pub.Lovely and clean place, very warm.Table service for drinks and food by very polite and competent service staff.Good variety of drinks on offer.Clean toilets.Can recommend.

This is a must visit when in Whitby. Very welcoming. Great choice of drinks. The owners have done a fantastic job restoring the building

Looks like decent pub but due to covid the bar was off limits and there was no food available. It was busy too and not wanting to plonk ourselves down with other folk we were relegated to pool room. So there we were - sat by the pool table with the other table-less misfits - like guests at a wake sitting around coffin. A far cry from the Middle Earth Tolkien had wrote so eloquently about in his novels. We quickly necked our beers and like Bilbo Baggins before us, we departed in search excitement and adventure elsewhere.

We had a holiday rental cottage right behind the pub. The Tavern is roomy with plenty of tables inside and out although with covid precautions the tables were spaced apart. There is also a room to the side with a pool table. Attentive staff, other customers happy to chat, a nice bar.

What a cracking pub this is, we enjoyed a fine selection of real ales whilst sat outside enjoying the views of the river Esk estuary. The tables were scrupulously cleaned after each & every visitor, which was very reassuring. And the best bit is they are still serving drinks at the tables. Great staff, a real winner for me 👍
