Poacher Pocket in Scarborough

After eating at The Poachers Barn fir a good few years, when we visit the coast.This time was sadly not a good experience.Went for dinner on Sunday, which fine was the day for Sunday roast, but usually have other options on menu, to be told chef won't cook anything else but Sunday dinner, offered choice of beef or turkey or vegetarian cauliflower cheese tart.Explained my daughter had dietary requirements and couldn't eat a Sunday roast, to be refused pointed blank on ordering her a starter dish instead. (Which was stated on menu's or a starter or dessert refer to main menu).I then asked could they surely not rustle up a baguette or bread and put some turkey in it? Again to be told no the chef would not be happy if approached to request anything other than the 3 options.We had 1 x vegetarian dish and a roast turkey dinner, with my daughter choosing then to sit and eat nothing, feeling embarrassed because of her dietary requirements and insisted we go ahead and order our meals.The food was very mediocre served with a small amount of watery gravy on, carrots like rubber and Yorkshire pudding dry and rock hard.I don't understand how a restaurant in this day and age can be run like this where every member of staff felt they couldn't approach the chef as he wouldn't be happy at all and kick off.Staff behind bar were pleasant enough and 1 lady that worked there, was lovely.I've always recommended this pub to visitors at our caravan, but will definitely not be in the future.Perhaps might give it a while until they employ a new chef and return then lol.

Arrived at the Poachers Barn to a lovely old fashioned pub and a very warm welcome, Was shown to our room which is exceptionally nice and adequate for our stay. We only stayed 2 nights unfortunately as a really nice place wish we could have stayed longer, definitely recommend this pub to stay at and already looking forward to booking for our next stay

GREAT PUB STOPOVERWe have stayed twice here at different times of the year, friendly landlord, great location for Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey. Food was excellent not over priced and plentiful. They have 3 car parks to choose from, was peaceful and flat. Larger motorhomes would have no problems in one of the car parks. Would highly recommend.

Great experience - nice little pub (or so we thought, until found the big restaurant room at the baxk too). Very dog friendly inside - staff brought us out a water bowl and regulars brought over some dog snacks from the bar too. Standard marstons drinks range but the food was way better than previous experiences at a marstons food pub with 'Ultimate Burgers' etc at relatively low prices.

Visited today as a mystery dinner for TERN. Paid £40 for 2 meals, 2 sides and 2 drinks. Atmosphere was nice, barman friendly enough. Upon receiving the food, the burgers were both burnt, the salad was soggy and the lettuce browned. The side portion of onion rings were a good decent size for £3.50, the side of garlic bread... well. 4 diminutive slices for £4.95 plus being solid and more like stale bread. Spoke to a lady there and she just blamed the head company about the price and quality of the food. Very unhelpful seeing as this head company doesn't have any contact details. Would not return again.

We turned up .large party. Good food. Good price. Friendly pub no complaints. Highly recommended.

Lovely warm welcome to this cosy pub. The pub services both local and tourist customers and on my very first visit was treated like a good friend. Excellent choice of drinks. Both alcoholic and non. Food was simple pub grub presented in a lovely way and plenty of choice. Really enjoyed my two visits. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Absolute fabulous pub New landlord/landlady above and beyond wot is required if your staying at nearby holiday spots its a must, great 4 families accomadation if wanted "BB" traditional proper pub big big play area 3 car parks

Clean and tidy pub with plenty of parking, but, very, very quiet for customers. Good choice of drinks, food menu has a good selection to chose from with reasonable prices and was value for money. Friendly staff member when he took the order, but, only down side is he spent the whole time we was there on his mobile, did not check how the meal was and tried to thank him as leaving, but, he was too busy on his phone to notice.
