Still a lovely place to have dinner in an evening. Easy to find and a landmark on Whitby's harbour for us. Friendly staff from showing us in to leaving. Meals were very good and not overpriced, although lobster adds to it a lot at the moment. I'd definitely recommend!

Sadly I found a long red hair underneath the bun I had already took a bite from (lobster roll) it completely put me off the meal so I didn’t ask for a replacement. The staff didn’t seem too bothered and simply brought the bill over straight away with the roll removed. Wouldn’t go back 👎🏼

Had 2 dinners here. Lovely restaurant, with very friendly staffs and decent food.

Ended up here for food on an impromptu Thursday afternoon trip to Whitby. Happy accident. We were walk ins with no reservation. Slight lull between dinner and lunch, so not overly busy. A few drinkers outside soaking up the sun and the view.Greeted by the effervescent Isabelle and her ability to speak five languages.Seated quickly. Friendly banter had. Recommendations from the staff were spot on for food and wine. No rush, despite the need for them to have the table back for a reservation.Crab linguine is tremendous. Suggested wine pairing was what I'd have picked anyway, but it's nice to see the staff know what they're about.Pleasant atmosphere. Good and clean. Portion sizes remarkably generous for the quality offered. Prices reasonable for the area. Accesibility good, though the toilets are up a couple of stairs. Wine options without reproach, cocktails not bad, though I would have preferred my aperitif to arrive before my starter.

I decided to order the mussels from the Marine as I had a great meal a few years ago, and thought I would give it another try. To my disappointment as I started eating I soon discovered this place has gone very far downhill. Many of the shells were closed & when an open one was found the mussel inside looked like it exploded, and was completely stuck to each side of the shell, deeming it inedible. I tried to unpick the flesh from the shell, but it just tore, and you were left with tiny fragment of mussel, rather than the plump whole piece of mussel we all know and love. Nearly 90% of the mussels in the bowl were like this, and after paying £15 you expect a decent meal, especially from a restaurant such as the marine.I have eaten mussels from multiple restaurants across Europe and have never had this issue, so when the waitress came I expressed my concerns and she said she would ask the chef. She soon came back and gave us a condescending lesson on the anatomy of a Bivalve mollusk, explaining that that’s how mussels are supposed to be once cooked! I explained that I have never had this issue before, especially with so many mussels in one portion. She said that was all the chef told her to say, and they were perfectly edible. There was no offer to rectify the situation, or even an offer of a partial refund, just a sarcastic lesson on mussels from a clearly incompetent chef through a waitress with a poor attitude.Evidently there was a serious problem somewhere in the cooking process to result in such a poor meal. This, paired with the bad service and lack of apology means that we will not be visiting this place again. This is such a shame considering we had a few great meals here pre-covid, but it’s evident the marine is not what it used to be since under new management.

We have been staying at The Marine for the last 10 years and were very sad to hear of its closure during lockdown. When we discovered it was reopening under new management it seemed the only location for my husband’s birthday celebration meal. We were a large family party with our 4 children and 3 of our grandchildren (12-18 month olds). We requested to be seated in the bar area, but were told they needed us in the back room ‘out of the way’. We had given a preorder and arrived exactly on time. We were shouted at from the moment we arrived with instructions from this person and that in voices louder than the situation warranted and very much passive/aggressive in tone. On several occasions during the meal the waitress serving us was extremely rude and at one point excessively so. It was such a big event for us to have all our children together and enormous effort had been put into giving my husband a really special birthday. I finally felt I needed to speak to the manager about the very poor way we were being treated. His response was that the waitress had had a long day. When we left, having paid the bill of £480, the manager couldn’t even bring himself to say goodbye or thank us for our custom. I was desperately disappointed and so sad that this establishment is no longer the wonderful place it used to be under the previous management.

Very good - top quality seafood - pleasant and helpful staff - recommend booking - good views of the harbour - enjoyed the oysters.

Overpriced and unfresh seafood, very poor customer service. I think the restaurant got new manager or chef. The seafood linguine is tasteless. The roast lobster is priced at £56 for a very small one, with garlic and butter but can barely taste the sauce. The oysters supposed to be fresh but they are not fresh at all, seems like they are merely place on the shells and very yucky. The place used to be our favourite restaurant and we come twice every year as we travel from Manchester but this time is a big disappointment.

The Marine in Whitby is a great place to go for lunch and a drink...booking advisable. We booked online, a very easy process and received email confirmation. You can choose from a set menu or pick your own. We had a Cod, Clam and Haddock Chowder starter and a Seafood Platter each for the main course. Both were delicious, albeit a tad messy when removing the crevette heads and shells 😂All in all an enjoyable experience and would recommend.

Well situated restaurant and bar in Whitby! Great atmosphere inside and outside (drinks only). The service was friendly and considerate - amazing job by the two waitresses attending 6/7 dinner tables and a few drinks table outside. The food was average - a good selection of seafood dishes but the taste wasn't spectacular or super fresh, consider it's in Whitby.
