Witching Post Inn in Scarborough

Excellent all round. Pub is very cosy. Room was comfortable and clean. Very hearty breakfast. Landlord and staff were incredibly welcoming and generous with their time and advice. Other guests friendly. Excellent walking straight from the front door and fun historical train line a short drive or 30 min walk down the hill to Grosmont. Would highly recommend a stay.

Very old inn with low ceilings (watch out if you are tall, like me!) and bags of character, set in a beautiful location (better views than nearby Egton Bridge). Comfortable room and excellent breakfast (the local butcher is top notch), and landlord Pete is helpful and informative, with a great sense of humour! Good place to stay if walking on the Moors or visiting Whitby.

We stayed recently at nearby Grosmont, and after our first meal at the Witching Post, found ourselves revisiting on our two remaining “eat out” occasions. We all enjoyed the wonderful food and the choice.On Thursday night I had the best vegan curry ever. Meat eaters and me exceedingly happy, loved the friendliness, cosiness, care. Next time I think we’ll stop there and have done!

Went there for a meal with my wife and daughter. Service was good but the meals themselves were below par. My wife and I had scampi and chips, and the scampi was soggy, so not the best. My daughter had the burger, and the bacon was greasy and chewy plus it was a lot of money for what we got.

What can I say , fantasticWe booked for Sunday lunch as we were in the area for a week. Food was divine and staff were friendly and very helpful. We also booked for our wedding anniversary meal too, chips were out of this world , never eaten chips like them before , beautiful. We went there a third time for a meal before we came home , what can I say didn't disappoint. Keep up the good work , we will definitely be back next yearWell done to all the staff it was a pleasure, and the poor chef in this heat , you did a grand job .

Had a 4 night stay at The Witching Post Inn in a deluxe room, large comfortable bed, sofa, TV, tea, coffee & plenty of storage. Bathroom was large with powerful shower over bath. Breakfast has a choice of cooked with cereals, evening meals enjoyed included steak, lamb shank. Nice lawned seating area to the rear with extra seating to the front overlooking green for evening sun. Friendly landlord with good local knowledge, tips, also entertaining with excellent staff. Visited here on a Monday night, everywhere else close by was closed.Arrived at 8.02pm. Asked if there was food available & was told ‘Sorry but it’s too late, we stop food at 8.0. The Chef overheard our disappointment & said that he’d stay on & do us something. We were grateful so I went for something simple ‘Bangers & Mash’ He said, ‘I’ll do u better than that. Steak & Ale pie is good’ So I did do.My wife fancied Whitebait with a few chips.Meals came, Pie was lovely, loads of meat with a great Puff Pastry top.The Whitebait came with chips, but he’d done a cracking side salad to go with it.Bar staff were very welcoming too, great Pino & Ale.Can’t fault it.Thanks a lot.

Stayed here for two nights in May 2022. Situated in a lovely quiet little village with great views across the Yorkshire Moors.Lovely clean rooms, very comfortable beds & great food.Thankyou to Pete (landlord) & to the staff who made us feel very welcome (dogs also welcome here) which is an added bonus.Great for walkers but unfortunately not much else to do in the village although Whitby itself is only a 10-15 minute drive.Highly recommended & will definitely be returning for another stay. 6 stars!!

Fantastic meal and excellent service. We visited The Witching Post twice in 3 days it was that good. The steak and ale pie was tender and flavourful, the chips were the best I’ve ever eaten and the sticky toffee pudding was divine. Everyone there was so welcoming, despite turning up before they opened and were happy to make changes and substitutions to ensure our vegetarian two year old was happy and well fed.

Under new management since we last visited and stayed there. It was good then, so we went back while staying in Sandsend. We stopped by for lunch, met a very friendly woman who was serving, who we had a nice chat with. They had some lovely cakes on offer, so ordered soup with croutons, followed by carrot cake. The soup was lovely, thick and tasty, served with crusty bread as well as the croutons. The carrot cake for dessert was delicious and moist. Enjoyed very much and will definitely be returning.
