Ye Horseshoe Inn in Scarborough

Popped in during a bank holiday break in the North Yorkshire Moors, on the off chance that we might find something vegan. It was that good we went back again and then listed the place on Happy Cow....It's a real pleasure just to be at the Horseshoe when the weather is really nice or really inclement. With plenty of rooms lit by roaring log fires, it was toasty on the second day when it was cold and rainy - drying shoes out on the open fire while tucking into a pizza was a treat. But the real pleasure is when the weather is nice. The weather on day one was gorgeous which matched the Horseshoe Hotel's external areas.With plenty of parking for cars (and our motorhome - Florence) we were amazed at how much they have going on. The pub itself is a traditional pub with lots of individually unique rooms, all set out for dining and lit with open fires. Outside there's a cute food truck which was immaculately clean boasting a pizza oven and freshly made pizzas. There's a river garden which has 9 picnic benches and enclosed, so if its windy that's the place to be. They also have an extremely large lawned pub garden with picnic benches, some gazebos and under a canopy of trees with 6 foot wide trunks. To one side of the pub garden is a wooded area with an open bar, plenty of seating under the trees, a log fire and a big blackboard listing the food they serve. It's here at the outside bar or in the pub that you place your order for food and drinks which includes an impressive cocktail menu. To finish off, they also have their own farm shop which sells plenty of vegan options.The choice of vegan food wasn't massive as its a traditional English pub fair with a pizza oven, but what they had tasted really good. On the menu for vegans was1. Nachos - with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, cheese (ask for vegan cheese) and cowboy beans.2. Spicy Bean Burger - with lettuce, tomato, onion relish and fries.3. If We Have to Pizza - an 11 inch sourdough pizza with a tomato base and vegan cheese, scattered with sunflower seeds, small sweet balsamic onions and slices of fresh fig.4. Onion Rings - with a cracked black pepper batter5. Fries - skin on6. Cowboy beans7. House Salad - lettuce with fresh leaves, cucumber, tomato, red onion, radish, spring onion, sweet balsamic onions and balsamic dressing.We had the pizza, onion rings, fries and side salad. It was so good we went back a day later for the same again. Drinks are served in recyclable cups too. Go for the pizza ..

This is known as the bottom Horseshoe. It has a green at the front with seating for many people. You can eat and drink in or out. It has a farm shop. Good for children as road is quiet and they can play on the green.

A fabulous place to stay but you are in the countryside so waking upto cocktails crowing, don't be surprised. It was a total new experience rather than wagons thundering passed.

Lovely place to stay the staff can't do enough for you really helpful rooms are very clean my husband and I were going on the pulman train and couldn't get a taxi and they organised one of the staff to take us to the station at grosmont where we got the train which was really lovely we really appreciated that really lovely people breakfast was lovely as well would definitely stay there again x

The service is excellent and so was the food. You most try the home made deserts. Would highly recommend and I would definitely visit again. Dave h

Excellent extremely dog friendly hotel. Beautiful setting. Great rooms. Lovely bar with open fire. (Could have been lit when we stayed, it was cold). Other guests said evening meal was lovely, we had already eaten in Whitby. Only downside was breakfast was very tasty but not much of it and not much choice in cereals etc. Will definately stay again though.

We’ve now visited The Horseshoe three times and have never been disappointed. The staff are really attentive, great selection of drinks and the food is excellent.Whilst the menu is limited, everything we had was wonderful.My only issue is that they don’t have a children’s menu, but at the same time I admire their commitment to high end cuisine.

The location of the Horseshoe is lovely lots of walks etc.The owner and staff were pleasant enough, breakfast is nice and high quality with good choice. Evening meals are geared to fine dining not really what we wanted after doing long walks we would prefer something a bit more hearty. Judging by the comments though those who had it enjoyed it. The bar area had a real fire which is always nice and good choice of beers etc.The room I stayed in was very small and very dull dark green paint on walls were just depressing. Bathroom very small and sparce and very damp. Shower though was very warmMattress was comfy and lovely quality bedding and pillows..Not sure of the theme they are going for as the fine dining does not seem to match up to the decor. It seems a bit of a miss mash of many things 😕On saying that we still enjoyed the time we spent there but don't think we will return

We have just had the best time here. Would highly recommend. The atmosphere, rooms, food and staff make you feel so welcome! Will definitely go back

Lovely romantic setting. Very welcoming staff. The hotel was lovely with a real fire in the pub and restaurant section. Decor throughout a little tired and sparse in the bar. It would be lovely if it had that romantic ambiance to match the outside. Food was a Michelin/al a carte style and choice was limited to 3 starters, dishes, puddings. Not normally our go to food style as generally I find it all a little pretentious. However I have to say the food was very tasty and we very much enjoyed the change. The chef clearly has a passion for good food. Our room was warm and clean with a lovely shower. However the shower door didn't really do much to stop the water soaking the floor. The water pipes from other rooms, and ours sounded like the Titanic was flooding when used. And lastly they allow dogs. Luckily we only heard one bark in the morning, as opposed to lots of barking. Breakfast. The full English was cooked well and they used fresh ingredients. All in all we enjoyed our stay there. Thanks.
