The original Cantonese founder no longer manages this place unfortunately. I hope the new owner retains the traditional “Canton King” standard.Just before COVID happened in 2020, the original boss sold the shop.I have been coming here since 2013 and have been coming here on a quarterly basis since.Its my favourite Chinese takeaway up in the North of England.They provide “King” size portions in comparison to competitors at a reasonable and fair price! This has been their main selling point since they opened!In my whole life of eating Chinese takeaways, not a single place has ever beaten Canton King’s value for money in terms of portion sizes!I was blown away by the portion size when I first came here!Their taste is very standard and generic.Do not expect very tasty Chinese like down in London!I recommend coming here if you are very hungry!

Ordered sweet and sour chicken balls that were crispy, sweet and so good.The salt and pepper wings and chips? spot on, probably the best! Plenty of salt, onion, chilli and garlic. The chicken chow mein was nice but but seemed incomplete, like it was missing something but still great. Unfortunately I cant say the same about the egg fried rice it was greasy, stuck together like sand and had a weird taste like it was out of date. To make up for this the staff were really friendly and gave very generous portions and I mean loads! The place does look a bit run down but don't let that stop you from coming in and trying them out; don't judge a book by its cover especially not this book! Cheap tasty food, friendly staff and one hundred percent worth it. Recommended

AWFUL! I bought sweet and sour king prawns, got home and not only was the source tasteless, but there were only FOUR PRAWNS in the source. I called up simply to let them know and the woman who answered was rude and aggressive, accusing me of trying to get a free meal before hanging up. AVOID THIS PLACE!

Inconsistent recently, usually average food and no real standout winner dishes to make you choose Canton King over one of the many other Chinese takeaways in the area

Was very disappointed with the food we had today. It is usually really warm and get a fair bit with it but wasn't today. The prawn crackers was horrendous and the rice was really dry the chicken balls didn't even taste like chicken and the batter was so thick and vile . we usually have it from here a lot but wouldn't have it again and wouldn't recommend it

First let me say I have been a fairly satisfied customer of this establishment for over 20 years I'd more often than not have the same thing BBQ ribs and rice so can't tell you if it's all the same . You used to be able to see them cooking your food through the doorway, not now , the new staff in their nice new uniforms put the pre cooked ribs in the chip pan , my heart sank...the ribs had plenty of meat but we're dry and greasy at the same time and the barbacue sauce was like water , worst of all it was completely tasteless .... I've really enjoyed food from here mm ostly in the past but no sorry I'll never go again , end of an era

Went tonight, they missed things I paid for out of my order. The rice tasted of burned oil, the ribs had no meat on them, the chicken balls were all batter and rubbery. It’s not the first time either. This place used to have queues outside the door, not any longer which is a sign that even though the portions are generous, the substandard quality of food they now serve on a consistent basis has ruined their reputation. I will not be returning here again, ever! So disappointed.

I love this place, I've been getting food from here for many years and always spot on. BIG portions so make sure you don't over order, most items will easily split between 2 to 3 people. Very reasonably priced, costs me between £15 - £20 usually to feed 2 adults, 2 teens and a child. Only negative is that it looks a bit run down, that doesn't effect the food but could possibly put off passing trade.

This Chinese as gone down hill really fast, our last take-a-way was disgusting, we binned 3/4 of what we bought. Chicken balls, the chicken was barely cooked and batter was soggy in the middle. BBQ ribs, I don't know what was on them, it tasted sickly, defiantly not BBQ sauce! Plain noodles well, I can't even describe them. Someone said they had been taken over, not sure if that us true, but food is now horrible.We won't be going back there again.
