Lovely service and great food as always! The crispy battered mushrooms are particularly good. Fairly busy on the Saturday night when we went but plenty of space between tables so it didn't feel crowded at all.

A lovely place staffed by friendly and welcoming folk. We visited recently with our family and shared an excellent meal together. The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty and we were able to enjoy our time in the restaurant in a relaxed and informal way. Brilliant - looking forward to our next visit already.

Lovely restaurant with a traditional real fireplace, and oil lamps on the tables. It feels like a treat to arrive here and the atmosphere is intimate. The owner was cooking tonight, we had spring roll, fried wonton with sweet & sour sauce and prawn toast to start which was perfectly good, as was the egg fried rice and crispy chicken with chilli sauce but the beef fillet in a fruity Cantonese sauce was outstanding. These with a coke and a beer cost under £45. The owner is a lovely character who went out of his way to welcome us. We will be back. Only open on Friday and Saturday nights currently.

We regularly eat out as a group if twelve and hadn't tried the Canton Orchard before so we were keen to see if it lived up to it's reputation - which were mixed depending on who I spoke to. Overall it was an awful experience. We were ignored by the owner/maitre d who was too busy schmoozing with what I assume were regulars. We got asked only once for drinks the whole time we were there, the waitresses didn't know what meals they were serving us so people ended up with the wrong dishes and my husband's didn't arrive at all but the service was so poor it wasn't worth pursuing. The bill came in Chinese so we had absolutely no idea what we were paying for but again we had lost the will to do anything. It fitted with the mixed reviews in that if you were a regular you were looked after but newbies are treated very poorly. Added to which VERY dated decor. Never ever again. Avoid if you enjoy a positive dining experience.

An utter disgrace. We telephoned on Wednesday Jan 04 to book a table for 3 people to eat that evening and were told that it was not necessary to book. We arrived at 7 pm to find that the restaurant was locked (suppose to open at 5 pm). We waited outside and were joined by a party of 6 people soon after which the doors were finally opened. We went inside and immediately were asked if we had booked to which we explained that we advised that this was unnecessary. The Chinese owner, then rudely ignored us and attended to the other party (who had made a booking). The owner was extremely rude to us to the astonishment of the other party so we angrily left the premises. There were no other guests present (not surprisingly) apart from the other party. The words touch and bargepole and immediately spring to mind.

Never EVER experienced such rudeness. The man was rude from the moment we walked in. And ignored us in favour of larger party behind us. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, not just from a business but on a personal level from anyone.Should have read the reviews on here beforehand. We tried to book a table early in the day and were told to just turn up.Restaurant was empty and would have thought they would be glad of customers.Should be an option to give ZERO stars. Will NEVER go here again and will make sure everyone knows about the service we received.Still in complete shock.

Great food, wine not too pricey for decent bottles.Visited again recently on a Monday night. Very quiet, but the food was outstanding. One of the best Chinese meals you'll ever have and yet not too pricey. The wine list is not too dissimilar to off licence prices. The proprietor is a bit of a character and loves to chat to you. A great gem of a restaurant in Sheffield

We've been to Canton Orchard a few times. Our experiences varied wildly depending on who we were with.If the owner considers someone to be an old friend or to be a local 'dignitary' the experience of eating there is quite pleasant (although the surroundings are in need of a revamp and the owner can be overbearing). If not it's terrible. Our last time there will be our last time there! We were served unbelievably slowly: for starters we were given 2 spring rolls and 4 spare ribs between 5 of us, and one of the starters never arrived (although they tried to charge us for it!). The main meal was pitifully small.Needless to say we left there still hungry, having waited an absolute age for the bill.Such a shame as the restaurant is situated in a lovely spot.
