The Empire fish and Chip restaurant in Wakefield

Why do I waste my money at this place! I haven’t been to a Weatherby Whaler in a long time because of poor quality and over priced fish and chips. So I should of known better. As I was visiting Wakefield over the weekend, I drove past this place and was genuinely surprised that it was now a Weatherby Whaler, as last time I was over that end of town it was another fish shop called the empire I believe. I went through the drive through, I ordered my usual fish chips and curry sauce. The fish was inedible, it tasted old and was hard, the chips was over cooked and the sauce was like water. I binned it all. Very very disappointed this isn’t the standard of fish and chips this company used to sell many years ago. I will never return.

Why oh why do I keep wasting my time with this place? Clearly I keep thinking that the staff will learn how to take an order correctly or even bag up the goods at the drive through in accordance with what is printed on the receipt.In reality though, after half a dozen visits to the drive through and half a dozen incorrect orders along with widely varying portion size and general quality I guess I should just give up.

I usually use the drive through and depending on what time of day it's usually pretty quick service. On the odd occasion we have had a 10/15 mins wait, but saying that it's well worth the wait GREAT FISH & CHIPS, GREAT PRICE AND GREAT STAFF.

Priced higher than other chip shops in the area so it's not always my first choice. However the fish and chips yesterday were absolutely beautiful. The batter was light and crisp all over the fish and they were not all greased up like other fish and chips( not sure if it's because they serve in a box rather than paper)Really enjoyed them yesterday and felt well worth paying a few extra £ . Oh and the drive through is so convenient if you are in a hurry .

Always a good meal but chips were under done for me tonight. Fish & batter delicious. Always fresh and hot. Service really good, waitresses pleasant, polite and helpful .

A kids sausage meal is £4.60 and it includes half a portion of fries and a sauce.Full portion of fish and chips is £4.40.That is the dumbest pricing I've ever seen and the manager and Stacey doesn't care, all complaints are just passed onto 'relevant party' at HQ.

Absolutely gorgeous fish and chips we had here today, in the restraunt. Love Weatherby whaler.!! The batter on the fish is amazing!! The best around!! Cant wait to go again.

21 of family met there today to see relatives from Australia and three of us travelled from Oxford to Wakefield to The Empire Fish shop to surprise them. The staff were amazing keeping it a secret and making sure we had a lovely time. Food was outstanding ! They even gave all the children selection boxes. Wish we could transport them down South

Consistently good for Fish & Chips plenty to eat v tasty, traditional in every sense Haddock in various sizes ans usual accompaniments scampi & some vegetarian options all good...relaxed atmosphere...any issues? Food wise & portion sizes no....serving plates on the small side & similarly tea cups for action men...that apart a good feed at a reasonable price

Excellent Gluten Free fish and chips that I have missed out on for the best part of 15 years. Good quality fish and potatoes cooked traditionally in Beef dripping. Delicious. Good service and nice set up with the option of drive-thru ordering or normal counter service or even a restaurant if you want to make an event of it. Good environmentally friendly packaging on the takeaway which could be even better if they could lose the polystyrene container for mushy peas etc. Looking forward to the Gluten Free sausage becoming available in Outwood as it is in Pudsey.
