The Golden Lion in Wakefield

Experienced all aspects of the Golden lion pub /Hotel rooms are great value for contractors easy accessible to the motorway found the regulars and staff friendly looking forward to the food menu starting up shortly great little beer garden that overlooks the canal would visit again and recommend

Although I've never actually been in I originally gave you 5 stars. I'm now amending this to 1 since you decided to give me some abuse during the early hours of the morning last year via a reply on here that you have now deleted. Unfortunately for you I had time to screenshot this. Now I'll never be attending this place.

For a few drinks by the river it is nice. There is a great big flyover that looms over the pub and river, its not the pubs fault its there but its worth knowing about as it can block the sky abit. There is small parking area about 10 cars. A lovely location for a walk up the canal/river. I had a pint of ship yard which is a nice pale ale and it was refreshing and cold. Pub is clean and toilet (males) modern and clean.

10 meters from the canal (where we arrived by boat). This place has a really friendly atmosphere. I will by calling in again.

Basic but wonderful setting on the river and lock. Amazing staff.

Lovely food.Me and 2 friends visited yesterday ( Tuesday) had a lovely lunch, we all opted for burger and chips. It came with two beef burgers in a toasted burger bun, fresh salad, homemade coleslaw, pickles and homemade chips. Nothing to complain about here.Pub lovely and clean and very welcoming.Shame the owner removed the two managers that made this happen, we will not be returning any time soon.

I’m extremely disappointed in this place... Myself and sister came for a meal and the food wasn’t at all nice. The vegetables were really crunchy as though they’ve been cooked in a microwave from being dug up. The beef was dry and the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard.We complained but got a very defensive/ruse response from the manager. Denying there was anything wrong with it.Inside the pub has just been refurbished, but it is all very grey and no colour. I know grey is a popular choice at the moment, but it’s too much here. The management didn’t manage outside properly it was full of unpleasant people who were swearing and not adhering to the rules (if any, I couldn’t see any control measures being implemented).We was hyped up about this place as a couple of my friends said the management care and are wanting to change it for the better, it’s had a refurbishment etc. Ultimately very disappointed and we won’t be returning. I over heard a few people say this.I hate writing negative reviews, especially when people are wanting to do things for the better. But the management here are rude, defensive and arrogant. It won’t be long before this pub is run into the ground, no doubt about it. It’s a shame really because it has huge potential.Please don’t waste your money on this place, it really isn’t worth it.

Superb example of a timeless canal side pub . Very friendly locals and staff. Accommodation available. Perhaps a little tidying up outside would help.
